engine swap from 1.2 tsi to 1.4 tsi

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to the forum, but I need some help/ advice. My skoda Octavia 5e 1.2tsi has been running quite bad for a while due to a loss of compression, and after months of missfiring, extreme oil consumption, and very poor performance, I have decided to get a new engine for it. I bought a 1.4 tsi 150ps engine code CZEA from a crashed octavia. Many of you will know that the 1.2 and 1.4's are basically the same engine, in fact, the ECU at least between my original CJZA engine and the new one are the same model.

However, before jumping into this project, I have some questions that some of you might be able to help with.

- for one, will the ecu from my car properly communicate with the new engine? From what i have read and seen myself, all the wiring harness, sensors, etc will be the same, but after calling a tuner, he told me that even if everything plugs in and seems to work, the ecu might not really work with a different engine. I don't get why this is, I mean I am no tuner, but shurely if the old ecu receives signal from all of the same sensors as before, it should just be a matter of loading a new map on the ECU that makes proper use of the new readings and correctly tells the engine what to do with it.

- secondly, i am looking for help regarding clutch kits. I know that some 1.4tsi's came with the same mq200 transmission that came in my 1.2, so I plan on just keeping that and simply getting a clutch that can withstand the higher torque, since the plan is to go stage 2 right away. However, I am unsure if the clutch kits made for mq200 1.4 engines are the same as my mq200 clutch from the 1.2. Does anyone have any recommendations for mq200 clutches that will work for the 1.4 and withstand around 350nm?

Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated, as this is a big project for me and I am very excited to get to work!
