I have just splashed out on a set of B and C pillar trims for my Octavia Estate so that I can make it look like Tavia4x4's here -

I need some help, please, with the following instructions:

Method:

1. Make the seal of the door drop window partly free. By the Octavia type it is necessary to remove carefully the wiping horizontal seal.

The 'seal of the door drop window' is presumably the window guide which fits around the window when it is closed. Can I just pull this away from the appropriate side of the door frame, and then push it back into place when I have stuck the door trim on?

The 'wiping horizontal seal' must be the (outer) window slot seal which wipes the window when it is wound down and seals the outer aperture of the slot when the window is closed. But des - sorry - does anyone know how it is fixed into place, and can I just pull it up and off?

I think if I take a couple of Hedex I can manage the bit about 'devoting the attention to the perfect sticking of the bent margins and the unevenness in door pillars'. Meanwhile I am still thinking about how to 'start to stick at the bottom toll of the front door pillar...'.

There is no rush for replies because I can't stick the trims on until the temperature gets to 18

..I have absolutely no idea how to put them on as my car came with them, did you get the inner pieces also or will you get away with them (dark colour and all).

For the full effect (single side silhouette) are you going for a tint also?

Either way I think it really transforms the side of the car, seen white estates round manchester (not helped by being classics!) that make me shudder!

Aha, I remember that expert translation well ! I fitted the pillar trims myself, and yes it was a little painful to perform. From memory;

1) clean the surfaces very well to stop any grit getting under the stickers

2) It's about 10 times easier if it's a nice sunny day, or if you warm them with a hairdryer

3) On the sides of the window seals you can wind the window down & the seals just pull off & on, no trouble.

4) The bottom seal is a different kettle of fish altogether, you only need to move each end of the seal out of the way so that the sticker can pass under the seal. BUT the bottom seal has a metal re-inforcing bar in it where it ovelaps with the side window seal. If you move this bit back too much it will bend outwards, and is almost impossible to straighten up.

5) Ater bending the first one & cursing alot I ended up using the spatchelor provided to push the sticker under the seal after the rest of the pillar had been stuck on first

So be careful you don't bend those overlap seals!

My local dealer refused to fit them as they said they'd had too many complaints about the window rubbers whistling afterwards !

Thank you :thumb:, 4x4, and especially for the warning about not bending the bottom seal. I had hoped that it might be possible just to ease the bottom seal out at the corner and that is what I will go for - using an extra pair of teenage hands that owe me a car-type favour.

Ian, the Skoda trim accessory pack comes with 8 trim pieces (all unlabelled to add a hint of excitement when fitting), and includes 2 for the door pillars. I couldn't agree more that the trim strips transform the appearance of the car - especially if white or silver, but solid colours like blue benefit too. Both my sons were very impressed with your car's tinting and want me to do ours - but DIY cruise control comes first, then chipping. I really need to sneak the latter past SWMBO somehow, so it needs to be relatively cheap and capable of being disabled for when she drives the car, and for when it goes to the Dealer. The Jabbasport chip really appeals to me, but it can't be 'hidden'; REVOs SPS1 sounds good, but I believe that programme is disabled rather than enabled by the dongle or whatever; and while APR's chipping can be disabled via the cruise control, it can't be hidden from the Dealer. So where do I go from here??? :?

Back onto topic. I'm going to do the 1.4 16V badge mod first to refresh my car DIY skills before embarking on a task Dealers apparently blanch at doing. (We tecchies need to keep our skills honed for every eventuality...) :roll:

heh, not sure if I would have gone to all the hassle \ expense with tints n pillars, but it was done when I bought it and I *do* like it.

I'd love to reccomend the guy that did the tinting, it's a fantastic job, (did lou's too) but he has packed up shop and emigrated to Canada!

I avoided the 1.4 badge as was concerned about swapping it back come resale time, just "de-coloured" so it's a silver bar on mine with embossed lettering.

RE chipping, depends how discreet you want (need?) to be - my dealer knows about my chip - they love it in fact, but not all dealers are "mod friendly". Very very tempted to go for cruise, my dealer will do it around

The comfiest seats I ever had in a car were the black leather Recaro's in my MkIV Golf, heated aswell, they were heaven ! The also had the side a/bags. I can't quite bring myself to buy them new at an estimated

Those 'English-ese' translations made me laugh out loud and brought back thoughts of wardrobes/shelves/electrical items etc that just make you want to pull your hair out.

Re: the badge change, could this be used as a get out by insurance companies if something happened to the car? I know it's the other way round but a friend of mine badged her Mk3 Golf Driver as a GTi and was told in no uncertain terms that this could cause a problem if it was pinched.

'Uprating' the badge could arguably make the car more attractive to car thieves, and upset insurers, but I am doing the opposite to make the car less attractive to those who are overly impressed by badges. I don't need a badge - or the massive 4x4 stickers which were in the back window before my mower demolished it with a stone - to remind me what my car is.

The rear badges, ie Octavia and 4x4 Turbo or whatever, come as a pair on a sheet of paper and cost circa
