New owner, personalisation questions....

Featured Replies

To set the scene, I'm a first-time owner (3 weeks) of a second-hand Octavia 3 SE L 2.0 TDI 7-speed DSG. I've spent what I thought was a good amount of time in the owner's manual and the infotainment unit's menus, but there are things that I'm struggling to personalise and some things left over from the previous owner's setting (not necessarily a bad thing) that are making me question what I'm not understanding.

Additionally, a couple of general points:

Is there a way of knowing what, if any, optional extras my car has, or even a list of what's standard on my car?

Also, as a new owner what could I or should I be upgrading software and firmware-wise that's changed in the last 4 years and what benefits will it bring me? (2 SD card slots in the glove box, one with Skoda branded SD card in it.)

1) Wing mirror personalisation - keys are assigned to two different users (each key displays a different default name when the car is unlocked and key inserted in ignition). When doors unlocked and key inserted using one key the mirrors are set then key removed and doors locked. Next user unlocks and inserts the other key, sets the mirrors, then removes key and locks. First user unlocks and inserts key, starts the car, but the mirrors remain where the second user left them. What am I doing wrong?

2) Mirror angle changing when parking to be able to see kerb better - do all models have this function, how do I know if mine does, because nothing changes when the mirror selector is set to L and I choose reverse gear, which is how I thought the function was engaged?

3) I've deleted (I think) the first and second previous users/last owners and personalised all the settings for mirrors, lights, etc, for me. Then copied my settings over to one for my partner. All seems to have been duplicated, great. But when I use 'the secondary key' the dashboard's central display (not infotainment unit) defaults to a scrollable list of frequently visited locations belonging to the last owners, whereas my 'primary key' displays the speed. This leads me to wonder, a) what settings haven't I found/deleted from the previous owners and, b) how could I personalise this part of the instrument cluster display for myself/my partner in the future?

I haven't done a 'factory reset', but I wonder if this might be the way to start over, but then by doing that I'm not sure I'd have the knowledge or experience to do what's possible... any thoughts? Thanks in advance

The skoda brand sd card is for your maps ,which can be updated by going to the skoda portal on the interweb ,as for other updates ive never updated mine 2016 vrs in the six years years ive owned it as it all works perfect and ime not sure if the updates actually change anything you can see ,i think its for if your having issues ,but could be wrong ,wiser folk will be along to help .

1) once you have the car set-up for "your" key, don't you have to hold down the unlock button whilst out of the ignition barrel until a couple of blips/flashes to set things to the key? Repeat with the other users key...

2) not all of them do, I "think" this needs a specific type of mirror and maybe the folding type

3) interesting that stuff still remains that have been "deleted", perhaps these are key specific (kinda makes sense). I would think the answer may lie in 1) i.e. locking the individual drivers profiles to their key...

This of course is based on my experience of me setting up my 2nd hand MK3 where I did the same, others with way more knowledge will no doubt be along to correct/advise as necessary...

This is an option which requires folding mirrors and, to work properly (for the mirror to return to the correct position) requires memory seats.

If you have folding mirrors but not memory seats you can enable it but the mirror will not reliably return to the correct position.

Hello and welcome to the group - yes, first port of call - always do a factory reset with any new VAG car you get.

Yes - there are two parts to that.  Generally (although not always) - if your system has two SD card slots its probably a Amunsden system or a Columbus system.  Take a photo of the front of the system (called an MIB2 system) and on the system itself - switch the system on, wait 10 secs, press and hold the Menu button.  Press Version and take a photo of that information and post it here.  You will probably need an updated Maps - (available on the Skoda https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ portal or on the Audio,Electronics and Security section of this forum) - the firmware - there are LOTS of threads available on this.  Roughly speaking, if it is an Amunsden system, you'll need version 0480 firmware.  However, we'll confirm that after you send in the photos.

Thanks everybody for your replies - I wasn't sure if my post was too long for a first ever post!

1) Yeah, I've done this. I think this is how/why the profile that's shown as default varies with the key inserted.

Ah, OK. I have the folding mirrors, but not electric/memory seats. Even if it weren't reliable, how do you enable the option? (Or is it the unreliability I'm already experiencing?)

OK, will do a factory reset in the morning and see where that puts me.

You need firmware for P0480 and you have an Amunsden system (Bolaro with Nav).

You have to check/change the settings in 2 modules.

Passenger Door module - address 52

Coding, Byte 4 make sure bits 2 & 3 (starting from bit 0) are set i.e. the hexadecimal value is xC

Central Electronics module - address 09

Security Access - enter code 31347

Adaptation - check/change the channel called "Access control 2 - Spiegelabsenkung bei Rueckwaertsfahrt" is active

Okayyyy... this looks way beyond my capabilities at this stage of ownership, perhaps forever. What are you using to see/amend this info?

As the attached screenshots say, VCDS.
