Need advice on 2.0 TDI cbbb engine high pressure fuel pump...

Featured Replies

Hi to everyone..

I own a Superb mk2 2010, with 2.0 TDI 170hp engine.. I am first owner, and car now has 560 000 km on clock...

So far I am very pleased with the car, especially with the engine.. in 14 years I only replaced glow plug ones, on 370 000km and recently oil pump shaft as a preventive maintenance on 550 000km, the one I took out was in perfect condition.. and that is it.. everything else is still factory parts, including flywheel, clutch, injectors, fuel pump..maintenance is done regularly on every 10 000 km (all filters and oil). The car is running fine no problems what so ever..

Now onto the dilemma that i have, it is about high pressure fuel pump, bosh cp4.. I did hear that they can make big problems with the fuel system, and i was wondering did someone know anything on this subject, is this true? On how many km they usually fail? What can i do like a preventive maintenance?

Hey - I have the same model, year, engine.  Also no engine complaints - only run it in @ 270,000km.  Only engine part I've had to replace is the fuel rail - well, I should replace it as I made a temporary fix while down country which involved permanently sealing the high pressure sensor to the rail (long story as to why that had to happen ;) , and, sadly, I cant blame the engine).  Problem is I keep forgetting about it as it doesn't cause any issues.....yet.

The day after I bought it (80,000km), it went into limp mode - fuel rail pressure too high.  I restarted the car and away went the fault.  It returned a month later, and was prevalent for a few months. Since starting regular filter changes every 10K shortly after, it has returned about twice in 4 years.

You're probably wondering where i'm going with my story, and the answer to that is nowhere - I just wanted to hear the advice of the experts on here because I'm buggered if I know what it all means - the car runs fine up until the error and immediately after it's reset!
