Where are the pops coming from in Sport Mode?

Featured Replies

So I'm loving the new FL 4.5 Octavia RS. We know that it doesn't have the sound actuator of the Mark 4 and sound so much better for it with its 'sports' exhaust. There are no settings in individual mode for exhaust settings.

However the subtle pops on the over run that you can hear both inside and outside the car only occur in Sports mode, not any of the others including individual.

So my question is what is making this noise?

Is there an exhaust valve after all that is only activated in sport mode?

OR

Is there some kind of audio enhancement that isn't the sound actuator of the old model that somehow is only activated in Sports mode?

If it wasn't for the fact you can hear it outside too my money would have been on some artificial pops coming through the audio system, but I'm just not sure.

Anyone know?

Hey just stumbled across this as I was thinking the same thing. Did you get anywhere with it?

I can’t see / hear any valves. On my previous car 1 valve would open on startup, and both in sports mode. This isn’t the case with the VRS as both exhausts fire up on start up, and sports mode doesn’t make the exhaust louder at idle (nor can you hear a valve opening / closing).

Surely then it must be an ecu map for sports mode only?

I just wish the mode button was closer to the steering wheel for RHD cars 😤

No but I assume you are right it’s just in the map. I agree on the mode button. I have found putting the mode widget in the main screen on the (I have air con controls on left, next driving modes and then the car icon and audio settings as I have the canton system and switch often from speech mode for podcasts to others for music) is very convenient as it’s then one touch to get to any mode without having to go through all of them.

I thought the same but even as a widget it’s still 2 clicks to sport, and before that select Home Screen button as most of the time I’m in car play…so 3 clicks total. Or am I doing it wrong?

I find simply clicking the physical mode button twice without really looking is the most efficient way, but I could be wrong as I’m still getting familiar with the car.

I have a Home Screen set that has the modes permanently on display so it’s one touch for me to sport or any other mode without going through them in sequence.

If I’m using CarPlay with media the speedo widget shows me what’s playing and if navigation the rev counter widget shows the next direction.

I agree the button is good (move hand to far left and then next button in without looking) but I do wish you could just hold it to go direct to sport like the Cupra mode in Cupra.

Umm maybe I’m not doing it right, would you mind sharing a screenshot of your Home Screen? I can set the mode button at the top of the screen, but I still have to click it before selecting sport (which is no different to pressing the physical button twice) 🤷‍♂️

To be fair you do have swipe up to show the individual mode
