Volkswagen put off plant closures in Germany back in 2024 VW agreed with the Unions to avoid factory closures in Germany and delay compulsory redundancies until 2030.

The media are reporting that the board meeting on thr 9yh July will centre around four German plants closing and potentially 100,000.

Volkswagen is poised for a boardroom showdown following reports that the auto giant is weighing up shutting four factories and implementing 100,000 job cuts.

In 2010 I moved some machinery for making car headliners from Port Elizabeth (now Gqererha) to Uitenhage (now Kariega) as the company supply VW South Africa, which is about 3km away. There are rumours that VW might close the kariega plant, which produces all of the world's supply of the Polo.
