1998 Octavia immobiliser problem.

The car is 8 years old and has given excellent service. Yesterday the immobiliser was activated using the same original key. After a few refusals to start it started normally.

I am concerned that this could happen in some isolated location and result in a high cost recovery. I know the key code and the get out procedure but would prefer for it not to happen. Could this action have been due to the very hot weather? Or am I heading for a replacement key situation? The second key has been used since and appears OK.

Can forum members advise what the failure of the key after 8 years may indicate especially since the condition only happened once. I dread the same thing happening far from home.

Regards

Did the immobiliser light come on? If it did there is a modification which can be done. This involves replacing the wiring loom from the read coil to the back of the dash panel insert. The part costs about £5 + VAT and round about an hour to do.
