Take it you mean remapping of the ECU (eprom). In the past tuners had to replace the "chip". Today they can simply reflash the chip.

Checkout the sponsers of the site. Jabbasport, Revo, Awesome GTI, Forge Motorsport. These all offer remaps. Power outputs range from 160bhp to 175bhp. What you need to watch out for is the torque. Too much will cook your clutch if you boot it below 2-2.5Krpm.

I've got a Dragon Digital box that simply plugs into the engine loom. Cost £250 and puts out about 175bhp. The best performance gains will come from a custom re-map of the ecu at about £400 and would give upto 185bhp ish. I opted for the dragon box as I could easily remove it when it goes in for waranty work
