I own a 1.9 TDi Superb and since I've had it it has asked for a service on average every 7-8k. Since most of my miles are motorway and I drive it VERY carefully (averaging around 50mpg) I think that either there's something wrong with the sensor/engine... or much more likely that it's set up incorrectly. I've been told that it needs to be set on 5 for variable intervals but that the manual states set on 1 for variable. Can anyone tell me how to get into the service computer in order to check the settings please?

I have contacted Skoda after the local dealership told me that everything was fine (something obviously isn't) and the Customer Services said "Computer says noooo"

Help! :scared:

Use Vag-Com to check the Instrument Cluster coding and adaption channels related to Service Interval settings.

Coding should have 1 in fourth digit for variable service interval:

xxx1x: Flexible Service Intervals with Oil Level/Ttemperature Sensor

Adaption channels should have the following values:

- > channel 42 Minimum Mileage to Service

15 - 15.000km (default value)

- > channel 43 Maximum Mileage to Service

00015 - no Longlife

00030 - Petrol engines Long Life

00035 to 00050 - diesel engines Long Life

- > channel 44 Maximum Time to Service (starting from 05/1999)

00360 - no Long Life (12 months)

00720 - Long Life service (24 months)

- > channel 45 Oil Quality (starting from 05/1999)

00001 - no Long Life service

00002 - Long Life service - petrol engines (oil after VOLKSWAGEN standard 50300)

00004 - Long Life service - diesel engines (oil according to Volkswagen standard 50600 (TDI) or 50601 (PD)

See vag-com label file for further information.

Check that you are using the recomended oil type for Long life variable service (VW 506.01)

  • 2 weeks later...

However if the dash is reset by the buttons it will revert to fixed servicing but NOT alter the coding of the dash.
