Heated wing mirrors

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with the heated wing mirrors?

Either mine aren't working, I don't know how to use them, they don't get very hot, or I'm being thick.

Apparently, the rear demister needs to be on first, before switching to heated mirrors (correct me if I'm wrong), and the manual says something about it only working below 20 degrees C, but they still don't seem to get anywhere near as hot as the Fabia's (if at all)!

Anyone noticed the same thing or help me out?

To turn mine on, on the electric mirror switch turn it to the picture off the mirror with a heated element showing, that should turn the heated elements on.

Yeah on mine even with the adjuster switch in the correct position they work but i think theres a fault with the drivers side mirror as it takes ages to demist. You do not have to turn on the heated rear window on for them to work though. They are automatic and turn on once the temperature falls below a certain point.

Not sure if it's the same with the rest of the Skoda range, but my Fabia heated mirrors didn't really work and never got noticeabley hot to the touch. I got the dealer to check it out and they said they were working fine. :D

On our OctyII the passenger side mirror didnt heat, so just took it back and got it replaced under warranty.

How long did it take to fix? Are the dealers likely to have the parts in stock?

Got mine booked in for tomorrow morning, but don't really fancy having to take it if they don't have the parts in stock

Seconded. Mine have worked fine since day 1.

As seems to be common nowadays, the mirror (or whatever they replaced) was on backorder and took weeks to arrive.

Having the same problem now with a dodgy parking sensor which we've been waiting 6 weeks for now!

Had the car booked in for this morning to be looked at. I was hoping it would be a quick fix. I'd noticed they had the bonnet up in the repair bay...

An hour later, the mechanic came out and said that he'd need some more time to look at it, but there definitely was a problem - they weren't working.

It's booked in now for a couple of weeks time - I hope they preorder the parts and get it fixed.

My faith in Derek Slack's is wavering slightly...surely this shouldn't happen on a brand new car???

(slightly) new developments - I've been testing the wing mirrors over the last few days. Noticed some strange goings on.

When the temperature's 15 degrees C or below, everything seems to work alright. When it goes to 15.5 or above, it doesn't seem to come on!

Strange, since the manual says the temp limit should be 20...

Still taking the car in, though - just to be sure.

Could be a problem with a temperature sensor. The one that controls the heated mirrors may not be the same one that gives the temperature feedback on your dash.

First really cold morning for me.

1. the switch on the door is set to {~}

2. pressed the heated rear screen

The drivers mirror dismisted in about 6 minutes (but not round the edges) - this took a further 4 minutes

The passenger mirror had not even started to clear in the time the drivers one was clear.

OT for this thread but i'm going to Derek Slacks today to see if they can find my locking wheel nut adaptor they seem to have misplaced since the car was in for a CV boot change a month or so ago, had a nail in the tyre and only discovered it was missing when the garage asked me where it was.

yep, that's how they work - and rear screen heater doesn't need to be on first

Correct, but the engine does need to be running

I think that the driver's mirror has a more powerful element, at least it clears more quickly than the passengers' on my Octy II elegance.....

Discovered this morning that the heated mirrors on SWMBO's car aren't working too well. Took them off to test the contacts and noticed the connectors are quite badly corroded. Cleared off a bit of the corrosion with a screwdriver (the only tool I had to hand!), and they seem a bit better having wiped them over with a damp cloth. Might give the connectors a bit of a squirt with WD40 when I get home to see if that helps some more...

Certainly cheaper than a new set of mirrors if that's all that's needed!

Both mirrors demisted at exactly the same rate this morning and both had the same amount of steam coming off them :D

P.S.

rear demister was OFF at the time ;)

Think I've discovered why they didn't seem to be working - they seem to turn themselves off after about 10 mins....is this normal???

Heated rear window goes off after 10 minutes, IIRC the heated mirrors are governed by external temperature, possibly 16 degrees C but not 100% on that figure.

16 degrees C??? Haven't had that for a while... :(
