Automatic door lock / key not working

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just been looking through my owners manual and see the doors can be set to automatically lock themselves when the car trached 15 MPH. It mentions a dealer can set this option, is there any way to do this myself? Also, one of my two keys does not work (remote wont open car - is not the battery), it stoped working out of the blue - have to use wifes key now!

Auto locking/unlocking needs to be coded by someone with VAG-com. My dealer did mine for nothing when I was having a minor adjustment to a rear door lock release.

The inoperative remote...has the button been pressed a lot when not near the car? I understood that could cause the remote to lose it's coding, and would need recoding.

Cheers, - yes, I couldnt find the bloody thing in our car park so walked about pressing the unlock button - the idea being I would see the car flash! Where do I get the key sorted?

Cheers

I think the process is;

1) Turn ignition on with key (one that works the central locking)

2) Lock the car manually with the second key.

3) Press unlock on the remore with the second key

4) Wait 6 seconds then press the unlock button again.

That should be all thats required to re-sync the buttons to the car.

I have found out how to do it - press any button on the non working keyfob (whilst by the car) use that key to unlock then lock the door - now it works!
