Steering or Tyres

Featured Replies

Just wondering does anyone else experience the following, driving slowly and straightening up after cornering there seems to be a slight shudder feel on the steering, could this be caused by the wide tyres on the Superb 225/45/17. I have read in other threads of different handling with different tyres but this seems to be at higher speeds,

Regards Pete.

hello again, could someone offer me their opinions of the steering in a Superb 1.9 tdi,

mine does'nt feel as smooth as I would like it to be, or if this has been discussed before cuuld you let me know where,

thanking you

Pete, I have a superb 1.9 130bhp and the steering is very good. None of the vibration you experience. Incidentally I also own a 1.9 105bhp Octy which unlike the

Superbs conventional power steering uses the newer electric motor assistance. I dont like it as much. The self centering is not good, but it is lighter for parking.

Thanks Iann, I sometimes feel that the steering is vague and when for example turning to the right or left the car seems to fight slightly against being straightened up again, there is not very strong pull or anything but it does'nt feel as effortless as I would expect. As a matter of interest what make of tyres are you running

Pete.

Hi again Pete, I still have the Michelin Primacy Pilot tyres that were on the car from new. The self centering is very good whereas my Octy has weak self centering.

This seems to be improving, so probably loosening up with usage. Is it possible that your tracking is out, as that affects the steering and self centering noticably ? Dont like the sound of the "slight shuddering" you experience though, might be worth a trip to the dealers.

Thanks Ian, this is a difficult problem to explain, the slight shudder is like a feeling of the tyres trying to grip the road and twist the steering in a diffferent direction, but from what you have said I think a test drive by an experienced mechanic is needed,

Thanks again, Pete.
