dash rattle?

Featured Replies

anyone had a strange rattle at certain revs on their superb? coming from approx above the center vents - only seems to happen when cold, but sounds like something metal is rattling around. before i start pulling the dash out, anyone come across this?

Hi - don't know if this is the same problem but mine has just developed (13 months; 20K miles) a noise which at first sounded like from the centre vents but on investigation seems actually from somewhere behind passenger dash. Mine is road speed related and not affected by revs (or even if coasting out of gear). Only appears above 25 mph and stops below that , otherwise increases intensity with road speed. Hard to describe the sound - like a small screw or part vibrating, or even a little like a worn bearing - but unaffected by whether blower is on/off or by ventilation settings. A very regular sound, constant "frequency" but volume increases with speed.

Car is going in in a couple of weeks to fix a leaking screen washer system leak so will get them to look at this too. Will post again once I know what the cause is.

I'm getting the exact same rattle. It does appear to be over the centre vents. It's only been happening for the last two weeks. The car is a late 03'. I haven't investigated it yet. Will post speeds and times it happens tommorrow.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update on mine - unfortunately after a week or so it went as mysteriously as it came. Of course it hads to stop before today, when I dropped car in at dealer for other warranty work (leaking windscreen fluid - apparently a chaffed tube near the bottle that requires the wheel arch inner to be removed for access). Typical

Would still love to know what cause anyone else finds for theirs - sorry I cannot add to the solution !
