Headlight Adjuster motor question

Featured Replies

My Drivers side adjuster motor isn't adjusting, but is making some terrible grinding noise.

1. How difficult is it to change the offending motor?

2. How much will the part cost?

If the headlight is anything like the vRS one you cant get the motor seperately. you have to change the entire headlight... daft i know but i had the drivers side one go on my vRS... Check with the dealers though the tdi might be different.

I noticed the other day that my passenger side one doesnt move -- havent done any diagnostics yet but it looks like a new headlight then...

Another trip to the dealer :(

Both sides on my TDI did exactly that (nasty noise, no adjustment, just a slight jiggling up and down of the beam). They were replaced under warranty (so no idea of cost), but I'm pretty sure the dealer did just replace the motors, not the whole headlight. I'd be surprised if the vRS was different, but then cars are often surprising!

(Actually, what I've just said isn't quite true, as the dealer broke something on one side when trying to remove the old motor or fit the new one, so one side had to have a whole new headlight. The other just got a motor though.)

I don't know about other models offhand, but my mate's vRS and my Elegance (both post-facelift, with fogs) have the same lamp units.

The headlight range motor is listed as a separate item at circa £44 (in 2004).

I have known the driven end of the motor to pop out of where it locates on the reflector, have a look first before spending any money.
