Front Brake Discs+Pads

Featured Replies

Hi

Not on my VRS but on the older 50k 1.4Mpi.....wondered if anyone here would do there own pads and discs as opposed to having qwikfit etc do it ?

Reasons against etc?

Not technically challenged from doing car work, far from it I have done several engine rebuilds and other jobs and done this before, just never on the Fabia and I dont know what it involves compared to other cars.

Don't have the Haynes manual yet tho so no insight into what is involved (maybe I should jack up and take the wheel off!)

I can't imagine there is too much difference from earlier basic golfs etc. This has to be the most basic job out there, mind you even so it should be performed correctly as safety is paramount to such an important area.

Oh and Merry xmas all briskodians :)

HI mate,

i used to change my brakes on my old polo which was a very easy job.

cant be much different for the fabia, all you need is a long reach allen key and a piston re-wind tool.

use the allen key to remove the guide pins from the back of the caliper and the caliper just falls off, (watch those brake pipes) then the disc is held on by a countersunk phillips screw (might need a hammer off the hub). the pads just press into the caliper.

have a gud xmas

john

I had a fellow Briskodian do the 312mm upgrade on my Fabia which having observed gave me the cofidence and know how to change the rear discs and pads on my own.

All it cost me was the parts and my time. Quite good fun and a great sense of achievement (sp) to boot.

You will need a piston re-wind tool (About £20 from halfrauds IIRC) and I would recommend an impact driver for the countersunk disc retaining screw as it can be a right fookin pain to get out.

Err....thanks! I found this info very useful as it redirected me to a full guide on this site :)

Thanks for assisting me with finding the info.

PS I have an idea on roughly what this would cost in parts + tools (Eurocarparts as one source of parts?) prolly just over £50-70 but what would the service guys doing this all the time charge ???
