Clunking noise when in tight turns at low speed?

Featured Replies

I'd had a minor issue with a similar problem, last week Skoda replaced the ARB bushes and links under warranty, identifying them as the cause of the problem. Unfortunately the sound has returned and this time more often and worse than ever. All was great for 6-7 days. I can hear the clunk and also slightly feel it through the steering.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

It couldn't be the CV joints, could it? Unless that's what you meant by 'links'...

Hi Mate ,

just the same problem albiet on a smaller scale.

check lower suspesion bushes

check anti roll bar bushes

and post your tyre size, it could be related to low profile tyres

cheers

The car is in to the dealers today in an attempt to get this fixed second time around. This time i'm using a Glasgow based Skoda dealer.

They diagnosed the problem as a problem with the shocker mount? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to the mechanics of my car so I'll believe them. Booked in this coming Tuesday to get fixed. Good job too cause the knocking noise is getting worse and happens most of the time and not only on full steering lock.

You don't say what year octy RS you have, there is an inherent problem with the anti-rollbars on the front which have been subject to a re-design by Skoda, but they don't like to publicise it or everybody whose car is still under warranty will be asking for a new one ( I only found this out a few months after mine ran out). On the earlier roll bars there is a "sleeve" fitted to the bar where the bush mounts, eventually this breaks into a few bits and allows the bush to move around where it mounts the bar to the body, hence the clonk from the suspension when under load, like cornering, it will get progressively get worse until every bump in the road will result in a clonk.

Get them to check the anti rollbar mounts again, not just the bushes but the bar itself and if it's the sleeved type get them to change it for the revised version.

Hope this helps.

The clunk is happening more and more now and not only while turning so maybe you are right. The car was first registered Aug 2003 and is currently covered by the Skoda Approved used car warranty.
