Oh Dear!

Featured Replies

Farther in law has just put 9lts of unleaded into his Tdi

Then phoned me to ask what he should do. He realised his mistake so drove to a parking space outside the shop before he phoned

Told him to call Skoda assist. They are going to tow him home and then tomorrow back to the dealers.

So how much is he looking at to get it sorted?

Mike, it's not that bad.

How empty was the tank? Was it just about empty and he then put 9 litres? Or was it a top up on a half-full tank? What I mean to get at is what's the ratio of diesel / unleaded? I made the mistake in my fabia and put 20 litres of bp ultimate (damn light blue and not dark blue pump) and then topped it up with another 25 litres of diesel, so had pretty much a 50/50 split. It was fine :) A bit hard to start when hot, but when cold and when driving, no problem.

If you go to a Skoda dealer, it's quite pricey. An independant will syphon out the fuel, dispose of it and put in a few litres of diesel for under

Ok, now that the situation has been solved.

It is a 1.9Tdi 130bhp Auto, The fuel light had just come on, so he stopped and put the 9lts in when he relised what he had done. Next he put in about 25lts and panicked thinking it might all be needed to be drained so moved the car off the pump and then phoned me in a panic.

I gave him Skoda assist no, who sent out a recovery truck. On route to his house the recovery driver mentioned he knew a spanner man about 4 miles from my farther in laws house, so they phoned him and arranged to meet him at his Garage. They worked out the Ratio of the mix if the tank was brimmed, decided it would be ok if the tank was kept full all the time. So they brimed the tank and gave the car a run and it seems fine.

Think he had a lucky escape, Spanner man only charged him
