Going to buy a Fabia

Featured Replies

Hello!

Joined the forum, because I wish to buy a Fabia vRS. Currently own a (mk5) Ford Fiesta Zetec-S. Been a very good car, since I passed my test, excellent handling, not too bad to look at, nice colour etc.

However....

Currently doing some crazy mileage, some 100miles a day... every day! Yes, thats 7 days a week, at work :(. Fancy a good quality, robust car, to get me from A-to-B, with the best MPG possible.

Ive turned to the Fabia, as it seems to have ticked all the boxes.

New

Good looking

Excellent build quality

Safe

Quiet

Refined

Incredible MPG

Quick

My Zetec-S is not like the Fabia. Its a stripped out, 2 bucket seated, toy car. Great on the corners, and fun to throw around, BUT... its costing me

Hi and welcome to Briskoda! Is it new or 2nd hand that you are looking to buy?

If new , have you found a car for sale at a dealer? The MK1 vRS is now out of production , and supplies are getting low , I'm not sure if it is only the Special Edition run out cars that are left on sale (race blue with leather , numbered on the seats , 1000 made).

If 2nd hand , watch out for leaky rear doors , squeaky front suspension , dash rattles , any lights that stay on on the dashboard (especially power steering and check engine lights). Have a look around in the 'Fabia' section on here and you should get an idea of what goes wrong with them , and various fixes for the common faults.

Good Luck!

Welcome :wavey:

Do a search, and most people would recommend a test drive as they are not to everyones liking, the driving style of diesel is different.

Beware , if you want handling close to your ztec, then your wallet will empty quickly on mods :rpfl:

I've had mine about 3 weeks now, its an '04 black magic and yes it does tick all those boxes you mentioned but the temptation is so great to put your foot down that i'm not getting a great return on my fuel. If you travel to work on a busy road where you just follow the car in front then you'll get your 60+ miles to the gallon. Great car, irresistable to drive it fast.

What is your return on fuel, if you drive briskly?

Im getting 27mpg out of my Fiesta - I doubt its worse than that!

I will look out for the problems mentioned, thanks.

Having a test drive in a Fabia (again) this week.

My first encounter, was in the back seat, travelling from west wales, to cardiff. Thats when I decided I wanted one.

I have decided on silver. Cheers!

haven't had chance to work it out yet, i'm only on my second tank full but if you find out what the tank holds i got just under 400 miles to the tank which isn't bad.

Well, the Fabia tank is 45litres. So, Im guessing youre getting 40mpg @ 400 miles.

Worst Ive had is 180miles to my 40litre Fiesta tank.

Hello,

I know your feeling with the fuel costs, I traded in my Fiesta ST which was drinking fuel like its going out of fashion, I have the fabia VRS Ltd in the racing blue, like people have all ready said its very hard to resist driving it fast, however despite that I'm averaging 46mpg compared to my previous 20mpg. If being sensible van get over 60mpg!! As for the comments on the handling I have read this quite a lot on this site, my ST was like a go-cart and the fabia is as good I have had no trouble with it. Enjoy it and go for it.
