What to do with my current tyres?

Featured Replies

I desperatly need to get new front tyres and may use this as an opportunity to get them back to Axle pairs. I have got the 17" wheels with sports suspension.

As this is a lease car I will not have choice of tyre make and really depends on stock - so will probably end up with P6000's.

PASSENGER FRONT DRIVER FRONT

Tyre 1 - Dunlop SP SPORT (on limit) Dunlop SP SPORT - Tyre 2 (on limit)

PASSENGER REAR PASSENGER REAR

Tyre 3 - Dunlop SP SPORT (5mm) Pirelli P6000 - Tyre 4 (7mm)

SPARE

Tyre 5 - Dunlop SP SPORT (new)

Question is what to do?

Option1 - just replace the two fronts (leaving rears 'as is')

Option2 - replace two fronts and swap the p6000 with the spare leaving axle pairs

Option3 - replace two fronts and rear Dunlop with Pirelli P6000

Thanks

Ray

Go for a variation on Option 2 but you should be aiming to get not only matched tyres for brand/type but also for tread depth - it would create an imbalance to have Dunlops on the rear, but one with 5mm and one new.

Therefore; I'm sure tyre 3 has got a cut in the sidewall, hasn't it - so must be replaced!!!!!! SO;-

1. Get rid of the fronts and tyre 3 (rear)

2. Tyre 4 Pirelli 7mm to the spare.

3. Spare/tyre 5 Dunlop out onto the road and then

4. buy 3 new Dunlop SP sports.

Magic NEW rubber all round!

Thanks for the reply.

On further inspection the Spare is a 16" Steel so cant be used to replace anything.

I have dropped the car off at Kwik fit this morning and god knows what it'll come back like..... probably 4 new different tyres !

I suspect Tyre1, 2 and 3 will all get replaced with Pirelli.... as they are "FREE" i am sure its no big deal.

Will update later when I collect the car

Well back home with 2 new front tyres

2 x Bridgestones.....

not sure if they are better then the Dunlops but he did mention that I only had done 8,500 on the Dunlops and they should last longer - even though the same guy suggested i replace the dunlops 3,000 miles previously visit

must say the steering seems a lot lighter - but they have made a mess all over the alloys with that white paste. I wish they'd pretend they cared about the customers cars.

New tyres need scrubbing in for 250 - 500 miles to get full grip, when the sterring will be back to normal weight.

Did they have a 'customer satisfaction' questionaire? If so; tell them their service is rubbish.

Yeah, if it wasn't ****ing it down I should have checked the location of the weights used for balancing, the locking wheel key and caps.

Unfortunatly as non of us hopefully do this very often its difficult to remember as you would expect them to take care

Check the pressures too as they may have pumped them up too high ;)
