diesel glow plug warning light - engine workshop

Featured Replies

out and about today working as my 2.5 v6 tdi is a taxi 52 reg , just as was going to pick up a fare the glow light started flashing and it said engine workshop on the display , but it was still running it hadn't cut out which i think would happen if the cambelt had snapped , stupidly or not i switched it off and then it wouldnt start , the car is in the garage now but it was very late on so he hasnt had a chance to look at it , so do any of you good people out there have any sort of idea of what it might be .

thanks in advance

Dave

Not sure what it might be exactly without some fault codes, but an issue with the injection pump would be my first guess.

well after all the panic and worry the car is now running and now back at my house , he said they had it on the diagnostic and no faults appered so he reset everything and it seem it was a slight fuel problem because stupidly it was on the red when it stopped , so he has blead the whole fuel system and its looks like its solved the problem , but i real bottled it when engine workshop appered on the display you think of the worst senario IE cambelts or pistons breaking or the likes , i now realise that engine workshop sign does'nt mean theres a massive fault it can be something stupid like mine yesterday .

Ahh yes the 2.5 has a safety cut out on the fuel delivery unit that if the tank gets down to 6 litres I think it is it will stop the engine.

This is because if the diesel pump runs dry it will cause damage as the diesel lubricates the internal parts of the pump. Also it is notoriously difficult to restart the 2.5 diesel once air is in the system.
