Buy M8 hexagonal nuts from Skoda Dealer or B&Q etc?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the one's from Skoda Sdealer would be any better in terms of corrosion resistance. Wouldn't want the nuts to seize just because I got them elsewhere. I think the one's from places like B&Q are just zinc plated, which they claim gives medium corrosion resistance.

What kind of bolts are you after? I have loads left over from various fabia strip downs, etc. I might be able to send you skoda ones f.o.c

I'm after one's for the favorit that go where the fuel pump blanking plate is.

Namely the 3 studs M8X50SP2 (2 or 3 of) [part number 978 708 652], and I am presuming the nuts that go on these are M8 and also some washers.

Was just plannig a short trip to Skoda dealers, although last time I went they didn't seem to know what I was on about when mentioning the rubber seals on the camshaft follower cover, and had to print a picture, then they didn't even have what I wanted in stock but got it for the next morning.

Odds are the B&Q ones are a lower quality steel, I would avoid them if poss

Just noticed screwfix has 3 different types of M8 hexagonal nut.

Bright Zinc Plated (probably same as B&Q)

Stainless Steel A2

Stainless Steel A4

I'm guessing the A4's are best as they cost the most, so would probably go for these over skoda dealers.

Never put stainless nuts on Mild steel bolts, over time you get whats known as bi metalic corrosion & one metal suffers

Hmmm this is turning out to be a mine field... Thanks for the pointer. Probably just easier to get skoda nuts and blame them if something goes wrong :D

they will almost probably be the same just dearer from the dealer. buy the cheaper ones and a tube of copperslip to put on the threads first. after all if it stops leaking why will you need to remove it again?

thank me later, steve

Might be worth noting that dealers had a note a while back saying Favorit parts were now not being issued to dealers and going out of circulation as they have now been out of production for over 10 years and they are no longer oblidged to provide parts for them.

Asked Skoda dealer about the bolts they said no longer produced and lots of favorit parts were becoming no longer available. I'll try retrieve the bolts from the other car I have access to bits from (250 miles away :o) then try examine mine and see if I can do something about the snapped bolt and the loose one then seal it all up tight and hope I don't have to worry about it ever again :)

off to grum/grge1969 on ebay, where you will get everything you need, genuine or pattern, at good money ;)
