Until 34k was on flexible service but asked dealer to change to fixed serv intervals. Oil changed to Magnatec 10/40 but I can't seem to find whether this is OK. How do I check this out?. In most of my previous vehicles I've used a 10/40 semi and changed every 5k.

Your manual should tell you which spec of oil is needed for both fixed and variable servicing. Don't know which it is myself sorry, but I think there will be a code along the lines of VW 50x xx.

According to their website, CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W-40 A3/B3 meets spec VW 505 00 - Engine Oil and Lubricants Castrol UK - Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B3.

You need to check this matches what the manual suggests.
