Greetings - Speedo query??

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I have read a few threads re Motorpoint Octavias. I have paid a deposit with them on a 57 plate 2.0 TDI L&K, effectively brand new , saving around £4000 off UK List.

Help please - I have just spoken to a UK Skoda main dealer, who shall remain nameless at present. He tells me that such cars come in to the country (from Malta in this case) and THEN are converted to MPH on the speedo etc.

Does anyone know if this is correct or just sour grapes from a dealer who is maybe losing sales?

I see a number of members have bought from them, so any answers would be welcome. I know that the warranty is only two years , from date of registration, and there is no SKODA breakdown cover, but £4000 ish is a big saving! Don't like the idea of the dash having been messed about with though.#

I have inspected the same car in silver, and it is Full UK spec, apart from missing the mudflaps on the rear bumper but I didnt pay much attention to the speedo itself- anyone know hown much these are ££ ?

Any answers please ??

Cheers

IIRC the speedo's can be sorted with a VAG lead and all this can/should be done/checked on the PDI.

Welcome :D

I assumed the cars being imported from Malta were "UK spec" so I'd not imagine there's be much messing about with them by the importer or it would stop being cost effective?

Sure one of the people who've bought from there will be along shortly.

Cheers !

I spoke with Motorpoint who said exactly the same - sour grapes on the part of the Uk dealer methinks!!

:)

As the owner of a "Maltese Falcon" I can confirm that the cars are indeed UK Spec... well actually above UK Standard Spec.... and thus the Speedo comes in MPH. :D

Couple of things to note:

1) Get the running lights switched off at your dealer otherwise they stay on all the time (cost me about 12 quid or something daft)

2) Make sure she's set on variable servicing and that the 4000 Mile Marker is removed... I still need to do this!

3) Pray that you get lucky and get one with Maxidot ;)

3) and most importantly ENJOY

I took great delight in telling my dealer that I saved about £4,500 by buying from Frank Borda in Malta... it didn't go down well but despite the sour grapes they get over it when you need work doing ;)

Good buy matey

Thanks !

Not sure if it has running lights, I had the engine running, has light assistant and xenons but I couldnt get the main lights to turn on.

Presume the variable servicing is something that main dealer has to activate, not Motorpoint?

definietly has Maxidot and all other UK spec incl the Jumbo Box !

Yes... you'll need to see the dealer for that mate.
