Memory Loss and poor sounds

Featured Replies

After following someones excellent tip of using a junior hacksaw blade to remove the standard stereo, I managed to ft my sony unit using the DIN adapter leads from halfords. The unit is now fitted and working but whenever the engine is turned off, the radio looses all of its memory. I guess that the red and yellow plugs needed swopping around?

Also, the sound quality has'nt really improved that much, are the standard skoda speakers really that bad? I am tempted to try that trick of splitting the memebrane behind the front speakers

And finally, will 6x9's fit in the side panels (Octavia estate)?

The standard speakers in a Mk1 Octavia are total crap and need replacing to show any real improvement.

You need to swap the red and yellow wires on the sony's wiring loom.

You won't get 6x9s in there - the standard ones are 4x6.

You will get 5x7s in there though - kenwood make some that will fit but I don't know the model numbers

So I swop the wirs over in the Sony connectors, not the skoda ones?

It makes no difference , but it's easier on the Sony wiring loom as they usually have a pair of bullet connectors that can be swapped in seconds
