Convenience Unit - Replace?

Hi all, me again.

I had the problem with the interior lights, I replaced the node joints in the loom and the rotten pollen filter gasket / rubbers, at last no more leaks.

However the lights still don't work, I don't have VAGCOM so can't check there.

But my thought is as many who have had this problem needed a new convenience unit, can I get one from a breakers yard for the same engine and model as my car and just plug it in? Or would it all need re-programming?

I gather the convenience unit is the plastic box under the passenger floor where the looms join.

All help greatly appreciated.
