Bonnet sound proofing. Rip it out or leave it in?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what you guys do with the bonnet sound proofing. Mine is kind of half held on by duct tape. I can't see it making noise inside the car that much louder removing it?

IME under-bonnet sound deadening makes more of a difference:-

1) to diesels.

2) to noise heard by people not in your vehicle.

Enough said?

rip it out, the weight loss might give you another 1bhp

As Ken says, the soundproofing is not for your benefit.

So, answer the following questions ...

Do you go to work at 4am?

Do you like your neighbours?

Obviously, if you answer yes, then no,

to the above questions ....

:D

I took mine out of my Favorit, and it didnt make any odds from when it was in.

DO IT!

No and definitely not :D

because of how it affects the engine performance? LOL :P

i noticed it in a rattly-tappet car. my estate is much quieter and it has sound deadening, but its a better car than the hatches anyway...

Lower weight will give you better acceleration and/or fuel consumption. The loss of the lagging effect will probably also lower underbonnet temperatures (best demonstrated by how much quicker the bonnet de-ices on a frosty morning), which will raise volumetric efficiency at the expense of a slightly longer warmup.

given the cold air feed they have anyway i would consider the rest of the engine being colder than necessary a bad thing, for wear, warm-up, and general running.

the weight isn't a noticeable difference either. (yeah, i've lifted bonnets :) )
