Lazy me my install has been in for months an i only just got round to carpeting the floor in the boot.

Any way full install now stands at a Pioner DEH 5900mp

A Vibe AC12 sub (with a Space Driver fitted) 1200w rms @ 2 ohms, mmm tasty. running from a Kenwood KAC9152 (that big amp next to the sub is solely driving the sub.

Under that floor, in the tyre well is a power capacitor and a 4 channel amp powering the JBL co-axials in the front doors and the Vibe Black Hex 6x9s in the rear shelf. (Oh yeh and i carry a can of that tyre weld stuff in a can).

I need to do somthing to protect my 6x9s from the pressure from the sub and also want to put components in the front doors but dont relish the hefty door card modification this is gonna require.

tbh whilst it probably sounds ok, I'd do it differently.

The way to best sounds in a car is having a set of decent component speakers in the front (As you have mentioned) and a sub.

The doors do not need that much modifying, just some sound deadening and somewhere to mount the tweeter. (On / in the A pillar is a good place to start)

6x9s have their place, but imo not in a parcel shelf. All they do is drag the soundstage back and ruin the stereo image.

Also does the Space sub have exactly the same parameters as the previous one fitted to the box, as ported boxes tend to be designed around one speakers attributes.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I think you could get a lot more out of your system if it was changed a bit.

If it was mine the list would be.

  1. Ditch the 6x9s
  2. Ditch the capacitor (They do nothing)
  3. Put std parcel shelf back in.
  4. Deaden front doors and fit components
  5. Fade out rear speakers alltogether, and only have them on when absoloutely needed.
  6. Make sure sub driver is ok in the box. If not design and build box to suit sub. (The space is a very capable sub)

The mounting depth for speakers in the front door of mk1 octys is about 52mm this rules out most decent component woofers without somkind of modification.

Never really got a straight answer about powercaps in the past so just continued to use it.

You have a valid point about the vibe sub i always wondered how they could claim to offer a tuned ported box then offer a driver upgrade to one twice as powerfull. The Space driver did come fitted from vibe but i'm sure its exactly the same box that normally comes with a black air driver, perhaps the ports are differant lengths, who knows. does sound good though.

The 6x9s are staying though, I must just prefer a different sound to everyone else, I really dont like all my sound to come from the front.

Thanks for the reply though I reckon i might swap out the power cap for a distro block ive got lying around.
