I'm seeing these quite often on the A406 and on other general roads.

My initial thought was that they might be SPECs.

No idea though, anyone?

I think they are for new LEZ(low emission zone) coming into force Feb '08

They have popped up along the major routes into and around London, there are LEZ warning signs on the M23 referring to the A23 at Coulsden and there are cameras very similar to that at that very location. I've seen them on all other major roads into London that I use (A40, A4, A21, A24, A20 to name but a few.

ANPR,but they do have some interesting cameras in Oxford on the ring road. Bengie do you know what they are as you live just off the ring road?

Have other places about LEZ cameras,though there is talk of ANPR.

As far as speed cameras go good site to see what they look like is speedcam.co.uk( all sorts on there from workers to fried ones )

Yes they are ANPR as that's how the C-charge and LEZ charge do/will work.

There are also rumours about emissions monitoring cameras that look at UV and IR data from exhausts fumes.
