bulbs

Featured Replies

Hey peeps, Im just on my way into work and my drivers side dipped beam bulb has gone. What bulb do I need as I dont have the manual with me.

Any help much appreciated.

If they are the same as the Passat, H7s. I've got 4 spares if you need one, feel free to pop over!! Likewise if you need a hand to remove the headlight. ;)

I hope you are joking about removing the headlight!

It can be taken out without removing the whole thing ...I have done mine twice...but you will need a good torch or two and be prepared to lose some of the skin off the back of your hand

1 - Behind the headlight is a cover sitting on the air filter box it undoes by picking out the two blanks and then undo the two screws.

2 - You can now see the air filter box, where it is bolted to the inner wing, undo this nut.

3 - The air pipe that joins the air filter box to the front of the car, i.e plastic tubing is secured to the right of the headlamp by three screws, remove these and the air pipe just pulls out.

4 - You can now unclip the weather cover from the rear of the headlamp.

5 - Pull the air filter box over towards the engine a few inches, this gives you the room to undo the connector and twist the bulb out.

Work backwards for re-assembly, hth.

Likewise for a Furby - H7 ---any idea how easy on driver side - if I can find one tonight and are these bog standard , as H7 from any maker ?? Couldn't happen at a worse time - working tonight and Plod are out and about doing their annual DD check - don't want to spend my bonus on a fine .

The Fabia is easier to do the driver's side than the passenger side, but it's fiddly and expect to lose some skin :D

I've just uprated main & dipped bulbs on both my Golf MkIV and SWMBO's Furby.

The Golf nearside is a pig to get access to, the Furby's a bit fiddly but not so bad.

The dipped beam H7 is not too bad once you realise how the clip that holds it in place works, on the passenger side a lot of it is done by feel because the battery cover is in the way & your view is a bit restricted. I managed the Furby's without removing the battery or battery cover but on the Golf the battery cover and the battery came out to get access !

If you've got the bulb I reckon you'll manage the drivers side ok, might lose a bit of skin off your fingers though ! :D

I have a PDF file for the above, but done on a Passat. If you want it, PM me with your email address, and I'll send it to you (tried to upload it here, but didn't appear to work)

I did indeed (And paid thanks)

On a side note, does anyone know a decent specialist aound the cambridgeshire area that isn't going to charge the earth for a service? I want an oil and filter change, spark plugs, pollen filter. As the car is ex-police I feel as its due a service and I have no history (other than that the cambelt has been done recently) I need to have a major service.
