higher than recomended tyre pressures..

Featured Replies

Last 2 times I have had new tyres put on my car I had them filled with Nitrogen. Can't really say it it makes any difference but the garage claimed it reduces the need to fill with air and stops the tyre wear.

Well, you should really have the tyres evacuated, then filled with dry CO2 (Source Team Marlboro Ferrari, via Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes ;) ).

Seriously, I agree that exotic (anything other than air) filling is a waste of money for road tyres. It may have a point in high downforce motor racing classes.

;)

I run my Toyo T1-Rs 2 or 3 PSI over the figure in the filler cap, because they suffer edge wear at that figure. The sharper turn-in is a nice plus too.

I did a test drive in an Austin Montego a few years ago and it was literally skipping across the road at any speed above 5mph. Turns out the nutter who was selling it had inflated all the tyres to 55psi, which was why they were almost bald in the centre of the treads.

I usually keep mine at a couple of psi above the recommended level.

Those tyres on that Cavalier look pretty destroyed! Maybe I'm drawing false conclusions here, but those alloys look like they've been dragged against kerbs quite a bit . . . if that happened while these tyres were on, could they have been significantly damaged (and as you say they're not reinforced sidewalls) which perhaps contributed or even caused the failure?

The wheels were like that beforehand!

The tyres were just ****e TBH, im NEVER going for budget brands again :thumbdwn:
