PTC heater in Climatronic?

Featured Replies

Just wanted to ask if anybody knows if there is a PTC heater in the 2.0 TDI Octavias.

Reason is my A3 is listed as having one, its supposed to work automatically when there is high heat demand during the engine warm-up period. Does seem to demist the windows quicker than my Octy does.

There is a reference to it in the clima codes

I can't confirm it but I very much doubt there is.

The octy doesn't have one over here but can in the rest of europe.

I think it could be retro fitted with the correct parts, however there may be RHD/LHD issues.

At least here in Finland there is.

I have asked about the power and dealer said its 1kw.

Deffanetly a much better / faster heating for incoming air than PTCs located in water passages like in my old '03 Octavia 1.9tdi ALH.

1 kw?

That's getting on 70 amps @ 14.4volts.

I would think 100-200 watts is more realistic. (7-14 Amps)

Might be that I don't remember right, though isn't the fuse something like 80-100Amps?

..I tried to google, but did not find much.

Also ELSA and ETKA dount tell much about fuses or element it self =(

It could be 1kw but it would put massive strain on the electrical system considering the blower will be on in addition to the electric seats etc.

200 watts would add a usable amount of heat to the car, the plug in type PTC's are about 200 watts and aren't too bad.

Well if people can get part numbers I'll have an ask when buying some new bits.

In nordic countries the OctyII is deliverd with an electrical heater that heats the air while the engine is cold. I dont know how much juice it draws though. In addition the car can be fitted with a webasto heater that can programmed with three different pickup times through the maxidot.

I've just ordered an Octy 1.9TDI DSG Elegance with some options including the webasto heater. I live in Norway and here it can get quite cold sometimes, but with the webasto, the electric air heater and heated seats I dont think we'll freeze solid when we start driving in the morning.

Same here, I bought 5.2kw Webasto with car.

Though even without using webasto Octavia II warms cabin a much faster than old 1.9TDi with 3 x 300w PTC elements in water passage.

Just checked from ETKA that there is at least two different parts (checked from 2006-2008).

MKV Golf / Jetta / Touran have them on 2.0TDI so still a posibility Octavia will have them as well.

AFAIK, the maximum effect of the PTC is actually 1 kW, but the power input to it is regulated based on other load. I.e. the PTC element gets "leftovers" from the other power sources. Also remember that the positive temperature coefficient means that load decreases as the temperature rises. I don't know how cold it would have to be outside for the PTC element to run at maximum effect.

I asked at the main dealer and was told it wasn't fitted to UK models by the parts guy after he checked the system for a few of the cars they had on their forecourt.

I guess it's on e of the little toys that are missing.

I ve discovered that you can buy little 12v PTC fan heaters for £10 on ebay.

I'd be surprised if the audi has one here in the UK.

I always thought it was only standard in the colder areas of europe

PTC heater is standard on Freelander 2 in UK - my wife has one - its works like magic.

I'm afraid I sold the A3 and got a V6 TT instead (engine warms up very quickly now).
