not your usual leccy window problem

Featured Replies

Done the search thing, but can't find anyone with this problem.

Have just replaced the drivers side regulator and lost 'one touch' in the process. Did the reset procedure many times, using the manual and Lummox methods, but every time I go to close, the window gets to the top and then does the 'roll back' thing and reopens about halfway. Window appears to be free in the channels, regulator is brand new and greased, so why is the window going into roll back mode?

It must be sensing a resistance, try slackening the bolts that secure the regulator to the glass and carefully wind it up, which might just reposition it. A bit of silicone lubricant in the channels could also help.

Thanks fordfan, that's what I thought at first, but it only does it when it gets to the closed position where it will sense a resistance. I thought that's why the reset procedure was carried out, so that the motor 'learns' where top is. maybe the motor isn't learning?

Can it be seen/reset by vag com?

I presume that the control circuit is part of the motor and cannot be replaced seperately? The circuit could have been damaged when the regulator failed.

Any more suggestions gratefully received....................

Hi Kwacka,

I know from experience that the one-touch function is part of the CANBUS system and therefore doesn't have its own control circuit, so I presume the same applies for the auto-open function.

Did you try and restore the one-touch the first time you raised the window, or did it stay up OK until you tried to restore it? Sounds like you may have tried it already, but an easy way to reset the controller is to whip out the relevant fuse (45 IIRC - check in your manual), which will wipe the one-touch settings etc, but should allow manual control of the window. That ought to pin down whether its a hardware or firmware fault...

HTH :)

Thanks for your help chaps, but I have the answer.

I reckon it would have flummoxed Lummox.

It's mechanical, not electrical (or electronic).

It was partly my fault on reassembling the regulator/motor - what a fiddle!

Took me about an hour to fix.

Any ideas ?? :D:D:D

Window catching on the door release cable?

Are you sitting comfortably?

The central part of the regulator assembly is a black plastic housing, with three posts that stick though the carrier. The motor sits on these posts, and is held on with three self tapping screws. When I screwed the motor on, I must have cracked one of the posts, so that the motor was only held with two.

This meant that the motor was flexing when it came under pressure, eg when the window closed fully. I can only assume that this small degree of flexing was confusing the circuitry so that it was either not 'learning' the stop position, or fooling the roll back into thinking there was an obstruction.

A little bit of bodgit repaired the post, motor now secure, one touch sorted.

Good job - must have taken some finding... :)
