New headunit!

Featured Replies

Well, I finally realised that the sound quality in the fabia isn't up to scratch for my tastes, not saying it's bad, just that it could be better. Plus, when taking friends on long journeys, as I sometimes do, being a student I seem to have oodles of free time on my hands, they quite often get bored... so, the idea of a screen in order to watch DVDs and recieve freeview was set upon. I didn't need navigation but i could get it if i wanted with the unit I have chosen. It's an Alpine IVA-D150R What do you guys think?

All that remains now is to fit it... oh dear.

Ok, i've bought a wire adaptor from Halfrauds so should be an easy connection tea? plug and play? What do I have to watch out for when wiring the unit in?

The only wire you have to be carefull with is the k wire. Also check that the permanent and switching lives are the correct way around.Do a quick search and you will find plenty of info.It is actually illegal to be able to watch dvd's whilst the car is moving.I have not seen that unit before in the uk.

The K wire? Also, I have purchaced an audioleads connection kit from Halfords, should this solve problems and just allow the unit to just be plugged in and used?

You need to use the Alpine to ISO harness and swap the bullet connectors over on the red and yellow leads such that red goes to yellow and yellow to red.

The usually blue lead that provides power to a powered aerial MUST NOT be connected as this is usually the wire that is used for the K Line.

Connecting this would send 12v down the K-line and potentially fry something.

Obviously this is all from memory and if you follow the information above it is all at your own risk.

Does anyone have a picture? Arghh! confuzzled!

Is this unit all self contained? I know the Alpine before this had a seperate box to install elsewhere in the car due to the size of the screen in the actual headunit.

yep, it's all one unit.

Duggie,

On the back of the alpine you will have a bundle of wires including a red and a yellow one going to the same 8 pin ISO connector.

Swap these over.

Make sure the blue wire that is marked for the powered aerial is not connected to the iso connectors at all.

You then won't need that autoleads adapter.

Also just thinking about it you will need an adapter to send power to the arial, but I'd doubt that is included in the autoleads one.
