Thought I'd finally get round to sharing my mums new car! Picked up from Carrs in Indian Queens Cornwall, the service was brilliant - Simon was our salesman and I'd recommend him and the dealership to anyone.

She recently collected her new SE Roomster 1.2 DSG in Corrida Red. I've never seen a red Roomster before but it looks pretty smart, she's just concerned she looks like she's driving around in a Postman Pat van!

My mum and dad have not bought a brand new car in a very long time, and I havent had the experience to buy brand new yet myself! The car was in the showroom sparkling under the showroom lights looking really good, we covered the paper work, and then Simon the salesman kindly spent some time explaining everything to my parents.

I've driven it myself, and its no slouch even with 5 people in the car it pulls comfortably without struggling. The panoramic sunroof was the deal maker in this instance, and its flexibility over the Fabia. I honestly can't believe how well it grips round the bends for such a tall car, and I'm really impressed with its refinement compared to the pre facelift roomster/fabia's the FL certainly had a few more extra bits of fabric and sound insulation.

It's averaged about 54mpg since she collected it, and coming from a laguna with 4 speeds, to a 7 speed dsg its like a little rocket in comparison!

She nicknamed it the Rooster unintentionally when she was placing the order so thats what it is now, the Red Rooster!

Overall, we are very impressed with the flexibility of the Roomster so far, I'm looking forward to using it when I need to move some stuff from one place to another! The new badges look great, the refinement it amazing and so smooth. I agree with its looks some people just don't get on with it, but compared to a bippa/ nemo, etc this is a class above!

I loved my Roomster and would definitely have another, Scout in facelift form still looks great IMO.

I'm sure your mum will appreciate the flexiblity, fuel consumption and visibility from her new car

only thing I found with mine was it used to eat a rear sidelight bulb every few months (there are 4 of them, 2 each side) easy enough to change but awkward to unplug the wiring loom from the light cluster

Just been driving around in it today with the sun, and it feels so spacious. I'm not sure what others think, but having been used to the Octavia DSG with 6 speed, 7 speeds seems a little more complicated in its decisions to keep the fuel economy down?

I really like your Postman Pat's Van! I wanted a white one, but my mother said you will not drive an ice cream man's van, then I wanted a black one, and my wife said you will not drive an undertaker's van, then I wanted a deep blue one, and my friends said you will not drive a 'Carabinieri' van!

Being tired, I asked all of them to pay the extra for a very Italian CAPPUCCINO beige van! :sun:

Mine does the same thing. It eats one, then when attempting to change it one or two others will blow. I've gotten now to where I have a stock of bulbs purchased when they go on sale for 75p each, and just replace all 4 when it happens. seems to be every 6 months or so. Had the wiring checked, alternator, etc. all is good and no reason why it should be happening. Only suggestion was perhaps the seal is slowly letting moisture into the cluster. it's a 10 minute job to change and cheap enough, so I'm not bothered.

yep, I tried bulbs from local spares shop, but found them to last about 1/2 as long as branded (ring, bosch etc)

one thing I found with the cheaper bulbs was that they went silver and losts brightness before they blew, unlike the branded bulbs which only appeared to have a fine dirty coating on the inside when they blew

Will keep an eye out for bulbs, everything seems to be ok! I know my old Bohemia used to burn bulbs like no tomorrow for some reason. Could it be an inconsistent resistor thats allowing too much current through sometimes?

It's possible. But as it has been such an inexpensive fix and minor annoyance, I haven't felt like shelling out for additional diagnostic checks to date.

@bluecar, I've been using Philips bulbs. Is there a quality difference between that and Bosch/Osram?

I would put bosch, osram and Philips all at the same quality level,

it is the unbranded out of a bulk box from local spares shop I have seen the issue of silvering
