  1. I've no plans on disputing anything with the garage, it's where I take my car and will carry on taking it, which is why I felt the reply from j.r was a load of old toss cos he's presuming I will be having a rare up or summat based on his own asaumptions, I merely asked how long it would take. But thank you Aperture for actually answering what I asked, appreciate it. They're not far off, and as said, even if they weren't I wouldn't be questioning it with them, was just curious is all. Seems ridiculous that this wasn't a relatively straight question/answer scenario. I've been on here 14 years now, and I understand why legends with massive amounts of knowledge such as Mike Holroyd have decided to leave. Its a very different place nowadays, sadly. Mods, please feel free to close this thread, thanks.
  2. So you don't have an answer then? Thanks for your help. Simple enough question, how many hours to physically take out and then refit an abs ecu. Didn't say I was going to argue semantics with them, just wanted to know if they're on the money or not.
  3. Garage has my 1.8 BBZ engine ABS unit out after a fault came up on the dash, sent it to get fixed under warranty as fault was found and now they have it back, but wondering how many hours labour should I be looking at to remove and refit it with all the brake lines bleeding, etc.? They've given me a time/hours taken to do it all, just checking if it sounds about right? WIll post once I've had a few answers. Cheers
  4. So can you test a sensor and the signal it's sending to the ecu unit very simply then, first port of call sort of thing even if the fault reader is saying main ecu?
  5. ... To check one specific abs sensor? Parked on a bend, my Wheel dinged a kerb just as I turned the ignition on and pulled away and the abs lights all came on! Garage says they checked the sensors, vcds says abs ecu unit fault, implausible signal, so need to send abs unit back under lifetime warranty cos it was done 2 years ago with 1130 fault and that's what it is saying,... Code 046a implausible signal, so basically same as 1130. Ecu company said to check the sensors were deffo tested by taking it above 10mph on a rolling road or just driving around plugged in to check the speed rating is correct, but no idea if the garage checked it this way or not. Is it black and white to check sensors and therefore just trust the garage or should I be making sure it was checked that specific way? If I got another garage to specifically check one sensor to alleviate my anxiety, how much am I probably looking at for just off side rear to be checked? (ecu out and sent away is a week without my car and extra expense if they find nothing wrong if the garage has got it wrong)
  6. ABS lights are doing the Xmas tree on the dash and the garage says it's an 046a code. Googling seems to say this and the 1130 code are the same thing, is that correct as I had the unit fixed with lifetime warranty with that code? It's coming up showing implausible signal, and I have to trust the garage did check the sensors properly, but from others experience what have they found 046a to be as its causing me great anxiety not being a physical, clunky part like a wheel bearing that is obvious?!
  7. Ah well, we'll see what happens I guess, nothing more I can do at this stage. Anyway, phoned them to break down the price for me and they had accidentally added the labour for both the master cylinder change AND the pipe behind the bulkhead which ultimately didn't need doing, so it pretty much cut the bill in half. 😊 Much more in line with what I thought it should be so happy days
  8. Yup, but that's easy if you are able to do it... I would only have half the tools and would never trust my abilities to bleed the system! They said they actually found a tiny split in the master. 🤷‍♂️ One thing I don't understand... If the slave cylinder is inside the gearbox, if it goes, how does that create oil leaks on the drive when the gearbox is effectively a metal box? Don't get why the gearbox oil would leak out by the same token.
  9. Skoda pricing is about 450 broken into 150 parts and 2.2 hours labour which is 300 notes. Think the garage I took it to (under recommendation since I moved to the area, but they do have outstanding reviews everywhere) might well be hitting me for the same amount but have to wait until Monday to see if that's correct... Seems a little odd that it would be the same as a dealer, unless there was summat else as well. Skoda labour is 138 per hour... Wouldn't have thought the garage I took it too would be that much, but we will see. If they are charging the same as the dealer, its possibly the first and last time I'm going there!
  10. Yeah, mine wasn't the pipe after all... Got a call saying it was the master cylinder in the end. Just concerned I may have been hiked on the price for the removal and fix but will wait to see. 😕
  11. Took my octy to a garage I was recommended with an intermittent clutch issue. They thought it was a pipe behind the bulkhead, but as they worked to confirm, they found it was the master cylinder that had a very slight leak so that was diagnosed as the actual fault and replaced. Now, I know the part will be 85ish quid or so from ecp or similar (based on their number plate part checker!), and glad it's not the slave, but what would you expect the total bill to come to to replace it and get it back to normal? Won't say yet, but just wondering if its steep and its the last time I go there or if its about right... So how much should that job roughly cost??
  12. Just meant reading is a large area so surprised I've not really heard of any indies yet. Ah, nothing at the mo, just had a master cylinder changed, but as its getting older it's likely more stuff will go. Whos your guy then and where is he, if you're happy to share?
  13. For those who get summat similar, turns out it was a split in a rubber pipe that runs from the master cylinder, behind the bulkhead, and into a valve on the gearbox. Not as much as a slave, but still I bit of a pig of a job down to where it running being awkward.
  14. Any thoughts how much that runs at repairing nowadays? If it's not standard alongside doing the slave, I'll get the clutch changed at the same time... Its done 128k on the original so probably won't last much longer.
