  1. Hi there, I've got a VRS which I've often posted about having a lack of power. I never really got to the bottom of it but just got on with it. Tomorrow I've got a pretty long drive down to the coast and I'm dreading it. Why? Because the car feels like an effort to drive, I always feel like I'm 'battling' with the low power and where when I used to just be able to drive miles and miles and enjoy the journey as the car glided over hills and climbs like they were nothing, now I feel like it's just so gutless and I feel like you have to make run-ups and prepare to do things. It's hard to describe but even my 75bhp~ Berlingo van feels beautifully smooth in comparison. Ok my van has done about 2k miles and my car has covered 122k but still. Any ideas because I've frankly had enough and I'm about a drive away from putting it up for sale!? I have another thread about the issue: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/351320-not-againg/ Anyway, any more help would be appreciated please! Thanks
  2. I share your power issues (or lack of)..it certainly feels slow these days. I'm going to try a decat....
  3. Yes, you read it right. Only I wish to change the internals of my damaged electric wing mirror, with a good condition manual. Is this possible? I'm assuming I can just raid the old wing mirror of it's motor and connections and pop them into the new one!
  4. You're right that's a cheap stalk. If you wanted a trip to Ipswich I could certainly help you fit evading dealership costs, which could be high. An install the first time took me in total a couple of hours. I expect its quicker once you have done it a few times. It's certainly not difficult there are just lots of steps. There are some good guides on this forum and on search engines.
  5. Ps: Check the turbo has a decent oil supply first. You haven't managed to bend the feed pipe slightly have you?
  6. I'd contact the supplier who sold you it. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't screech. At worst there should be a mild whistle!
  7. Good question. Naturally I would have thought some coding would be needed, however you never know. If that was me, I'd get the unit second hand from ebay, then if it didn't work,a lot of sellers allow returns. That way you are only shelling out for the postage. I'd hope that a bit of googling (other search engines are available) would come up with the answer. You're correct that the cheap looms come without plugs which leaves you guessing however as you said, the German company I listed gives you the standard loom for very little money. Their customer service was good too.
  8. I've used vcds and it logs perfectly! Definitely not limp mode, I've experienced limp mode and it's far from limp mode in terms of power.
  9. Firstly, stop driving it! I think white smoke is un-burnt raw fuel so look along the lines of cam shaft, timing, injectors etc. I'm afraid it doesnt sound good but I think the key point is to keep the engine stopped as much as possible to prevent damage.
  10. A little update: Though this thread has become more of a blog now, I think I've managed to claw back a little power. By chance, I thought I'd change my air filter and my fuel filter (despite the fact they were only changed about 5k ago.) The car feels a little more pokey however still no way on par with when I first drove it (approx 10k ago). Still looking for more suggestions and as always, I'll add to this if I get any further for reference for anyone else!!
  11. No. As previously posted, if the plastic black inner section of the pulley rotates on it's own, it means it's sheared from the compressor to prevent damage to the belt.
  12. I checked my compressor following this thread and sadly for me, its the compressor shaft that sheared! Gutted.
  13. This interests me but I'm pretty sure you would need a stalk anyway to find the correct signals/ons and offs etc. How would you control this also? I'd hate to think what would happen if my cruise control got stuck and accelerated so I can imagine the problems you could face if the computer/arduino/pi crashed or sent the wrong signal! Interestingly I had the thought the other day as I was pushing the rather clumsy cancel button, how better it would be if it was in my right hand on the door for example! Or on the roof! Or in the back seat allowing back-seat-driver's a bit of control for once!
  14. What are the codes? Can you screenshot and we can help.
