  1. Sorry to drag this one out again, but I've just been given an S3 and I'm trying to pair it in my 2010 Elegance (although the Columbus is 2013). Phone is GT-I8190N; Android 4.1.2. The h/u finds the phone; the phone finds the h/u on rSAP, but when I try to connect on the maxidot, I just get 'the mobile phone is not compatible', and when I try to pair from the phone I get 'unable to pair'. I get a screen sometimes to enter a code, but, of course, the maxidot gives me no code to enter. I have no SIM lock code. Any suggestions gratefully received.
  2. I sometimes hear a soft click at low speeds when it's quiet in the car. I just assumed it was the clutch engaging or disengaging.
  3. Yes, you can. And the covers come off. See here.
  4. I think I'd look for a decent locksmith, if I were you. They can get into most things frighteningly easily.
  5. I'm very happy for you. Shall we get back on topic now?
  6. I love almost everything except how you switch the DRLs on and off. Why couldn't they just have a switch?

  8. Make sure the Columbus radio/satnav/parking sensor display is working. Skoda price for a new one is £2000+, so that's a good bargaining chip if it's bricked. (You can buy replacements cheaper elsewhere.) New timing belt and fuel pump will set you back around £450 if it's not been done yet.
  9. Goodyear Efficientgrip performance. After researching, just had 4 fitted and it was like driving a different car. Tyre fitter, unprompted, said they were the best tyre on the market.
  10. Yup, that's why I advised what I advised in my first post.
  11. Oh for sure, if mine had been nicked rather than bricked, that's certainly what I'd have done. DAB? Well, the ones on eBay do ...
  12. You guys are clearly willing and able to stump up Skoda's extortionate £2000+ for a replacement without blinking, but not everyone is so fortunate. If Skoda's price was more reasonable (for a unit that routinely bricks after a couple of years, I might add), more people would pay it and the stolen/counterfeit market would become less profitable and consequently smaller.
  13. It's natural that to keep your NCD is the first instinct, but have you actually worked out the cost of an insurance claim (to get a brand new and warranted unit) against going it alone with all the potential pitfalls that implies? (That said, I did buy my Columbus from a Lithuanian on eBay 2 years ago and it's been fine.)
  14. If you go down that route, I'd be very interested to see some before and afters pics, and costings.
  15. Mine is the same as this. I *think* it bongs when the low fuel level is reached while driving. (I didn't even know it monitored screenwash level. Yet another plus point!)
  16. Thanks for the heads up (£88 in fact); I was going to Asda at £105.30 all in but this will be a better deal since, as you say, I can get them fitted for £30. I'm a bit puzzled that openeo don't have an XL rating whereas Asda (and oponeo's F1 and ordinary EGs) do, but maybe that's just an omission.
  17. I'm certainly leaning towards the EGPs. Just need someone to have a 4 for 3 January sale now!
  18. Thanks, Jake, that's very interesting. (I didn't even know there was a numerical wear comparison available.) Presumably, then, the EGPs have a harder compound which, presumably, means a bit less grip (even though the 225/40/18s are both A rated in the wet)?
  19. To fit them is to love them, it seems, although in your size the EGPs have an even better fuel efficiency rating than the Asy (B vs C). That's the same for my 225/40/18s, although the Asys are 70dB vs 69dB there. Thanks
  20. There's a load of posts about these, I know, and everyone who has fitted either seems to love them, but can anyone tell me what the difference is in practical terms? They're similarly priced, similarly specced and both rated plenty fast enough, so I can only presume they're made with different driving conditions in mind, but what are they? Even the manufacturer's site doesn't really explain which is better for what.
