  1. I have a 2012 Elegance with Columbus. I have used a 4, 4S and 5S with the unit, all ok. The 5S can be temperamental, I reset the Columbus as already suggested which cured the initial pairing problem and the phone paired ok. If it doesn't find the phone do a hard reset on the phone, I get this occasionally and this does the trick.
  2. I purchased from Colbournes Skoda in Guildford and had an extremely poor service, I now use Garlands Skoda in Aldershot. They are part of the Whinchester group, very good service.
  3. KB - Thanks for the reply, its a shame especially as its tow car of the year!
  4. I have the Columbus Sat Nav. Having used a Garmin before when towing or driving larger vehicles I was able to select settings that prevented the system from using single track roads etc. I have checked settings in the columbus and the manual but cant find anything similar. Having just returned from a week in North Cornwall with a teenage daughter who cant read a map and a caravan it would be useful! Any ideas?
  5. Thanks for the the replies. Seems like its the system and not a fault. Its going back (again) for a new rear light cluster that is letting water in so I will get them to check it for me as a precaution.
  6. I have read all the posts on this but cant find a definitive answer, hence this post. I have a 2012 170 cr 4x4 with the dual digital climate control. Compared to my previous car which had a BMW system it is very erratic. On Auto its sensitivity to cabin temperature seems to be non existent at times blowing warm air when it patently should be cooling the cabin down. On other occasions, even with the dual climate function off it sometimes blows warm air through one side and cold through the other. I can see on here that others have had similar issues. The only advice seems to be to turn it off and then turn it on again which seems to work. The BMW system I had before was set to 20 day in and day out and maintained that temp. Is this a fault with my car or something they all do to a greater or lesser degree? If it is a fault has anyone had it rectified? Cheers. John
  7. Thanks for the replies. Car was back with the dealers today and a new module was fitted plus an interogation by Skoda technical. It is now working and has been demonstrated to me. The information on here was very valuable! Cheers.
  8. Cheers - As I suspected. Makes you sick when they are charging twice the price!
  9. I have CR 170 4x4 hatchback which I recently purchased from a main dealer to tow a caravan. I had a Skoda tow bar fitted by the supplying dealer here in Surrey and have had issues from day one. The rear bumper was not fitted back on correctly, a fixing was left off causing it to vibrate on the body work and the detachable tow bar swan neck that they supplied was broken. The also managed to scratch the bodywork. I returned a second time as the reversing sensors picked up the swan neck, I was told that this was normal and that the sensors are only disabled when a trailer is attached but they assured me that the system had been checked. In fact I asked three times and was assured three times! Yesterday I drove 250 miles to collect the new caravan, hitched up and found that although the electrics on the van worked the reversing sensors were not disabled and the columbus unit doesn't show a graphic indicating it has detected a trailer. I also suspect that there is an issue with the 13 pin socket as it doesn't appear to be giving a charge for the habitation battery. Its back to the dealer again tomorrow. I just want to be clear that a) The reversing sensors WILL detect the swan neck / tow ball when there is no trailer attached and The reversing sensors will be disabled when a trailer is attached and that a graphic will appear on the columbus unit when reverse is engaged c) Should there be an additional audible warning for the indicators (caravan dealer suggests there should be) I have now put the payment for this in dispute with the credit card company due to the level of service and written to the dealers and Skoda formally complaining about this and issues with another warranty claim and sales process (Financial Services and GAP Insurance). Skoda have washed their hands of it passing full responsibility to the dealer which surprised me when they pride themselves on customer service. Cheers
  10. Gents - Thanks for the reassurance on this. John
  11. Thanks - This is it - I did search but didn't find this ! Cheers. John
  12. Hi - I have a CR170 4x4 manual for about a month now. I have noticed that when pulling out of junctions IE from stationary on a tight lock the car jolts or 'coughs'. I can't be sure if its transmission or something to do with the power delivery / throttle. It doesn't happen if I accelerate hard out of the turn. My thoughts were that it might be something to do with the 4x4 engaging of disengaging or the throttle. The question for the forum is has anyone else experienced this and is it normal. Cheers John
  13. Hi John - I am only going by what the independent fitters told me, and it may be wrong, that even if it was bypassed with a relay it needed a software update. I have now booked mine in to Skoda as I wasn't inspired with confidence from even the major after market suppliers. One major supplier who has local agents who do the fitting even said they could fit the towbar but the car would still have to go to Skoda for the software update this brought the fitting charge to more than just going to Skoda in the first place. As I said in the first post I am no expert, the other posts have more experience around this than me. Good Luck!
  14. Hi John - I am no expert but have recently been looking at fitting a tow bar to my superb. I have been comparing the Skoda fitted system to an after market system and possible DIY. My understanding so far is the Skoda system is wired from the fuse box and by passes the car electrics altogether i.e. its a separate loom. The aftermarket systems involve a separate relay, again by passing the car electrics. All fitters including Skoda stated the car required a software upgrade to avoid issues with the can bus electrics irrespective of how it wired in. It doesn't answer your question but be very careful about chopping directly into the electrics.
  15. Had the coolant checked again today and its down so looks like a leak from somewhere. Its going in thursday.
  16. Yep tempted fate.. Groaning is back. Only with air con on and not dependent on engine speed temp, quite random. The air con is working and quite effective. I wonder now if it is a coolant issue and the system has a leak?
  17. Hi - further to my last posting quote section 3(3) Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and Home Office Circular 29/1997 which lays out the offence of allowing a dog be in a private place where it injures someone or gives rise to fear that it could happen. Williams v Richards (1907) and Briscoe v Dhattock (1998) are stated cases that indicate dangerously out of control applies to livestock as well as humans. There is an offence here and they should be dealing on your behalf and to prevent a reoccrance. Phone up to make a formal complaint and show them the depth of public impact on here let the press know and quote these stated cases. Good luck but you shouldn't need it - sorry to say its a disgracefull level of service.
  18. Stigs - Sorry but they are wrong. It is an offence to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control. here are two acts that they can use. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and the old Act of 1871. As for the damage to your car, it is Criminal Damage as the other dog owner was reckless as to wether damage was caused or not. It is not for the officer to decide it is up to the CPS to asses wether there is a realistic prospect of securing a conviction and for a court to decide wether someone is guilty or not. The officer should secure evidence and not pre judge the situation. My suggestion would be to phone up and make a formal complaint pointing out that they are loosing the opportunity to secure evidence. The complaint should be dealt with by an Inspector who will hopefully direct that the matter be dealt with correctly.
  19. I posted on here recently about a similar odd noise I was getting with my air con. Car is the same age as yours with similar miles a 170CR. Try disengaging the air con and see if that stops it. If it does mine was cured by a recharging of the air con under warranty. The dealer did say that the Superb in his opinion was sensitive to the level of gas in the air con system and that it can cause groans and odd noises as it circulates.
  20. When you say the discs are fine, if they are worn / grooved or have a lip on the outer edge the pads will need to wear down to the profile of the discs to give maximum effectiveness. This could be causing the squeal. Its why dealers will often change the discs and pads together. Less bedding in and better performance. The shims are also service part. If they have lost any of their tensile strength it could also cause squealing so you could replace them. If the pedal is soft / spongey bleed them to get new fluid in and let the brakes bed in a bit. If that doesn't work I would look at changing the discs and start again.
  21. Hi Jam - Couple of things to consider. If the discs are very worn the new pads will take a few hundred miles to bed in. Its one reason discs and pads are often changed at the same time. Secondly, have you considered bleeding the system. You may have some air in the system. Changing the fluid should give a nice firm pedal. Are you sure you have the correct pad compound? None standard compounds will have different characteristics. As for the squeal, a small amount of copperslip on the back of the pads and new anti squeal shims should cure it. John
  22. Mikes advice is spot on. Obviously your priority will be the welfare of your injured dog. Then phone up and tell them that you wish to formally report personal injury, damage and two dogs dangerously out of control. Also tell them that the incident has attracted considerable local interest. Also remind them that they have a duty to protect life, property a preserve evidence. I would be very surprised if that didn't shake them into action. Should that fail tell them you wish to make a formal complaint around neglect of duty. This should get you contact with a duty officer who hopefully will sort this for you. There is no excuse they should be investigating this for you - good luck and let us know how you and your dogs get on.
  23. Powder coating would be best as has already been said. If you are going to DIY it I have seen masking kits on ebay. Essentially pre cut templates that fit between the tyre and rim to help mask the tyre. They do most wheel sizes and its much quicker than cutting paper and trying to stick it down masking tape! I had a similar problem to you on a BMW. Once the paint was damaged damp seemed to get between the paint and alloy, the jet wash just accelerated the process lifting the paint off.
  24. An update - and I know in writing this I am tempting fate! I went back to the dealer today and they re gassed the system. Apparently it was low on gas and the system on the Superb will get noisy if its low. Not sure what units they measure the gas in but it is supposed to be at 550 and it was at 400. At the moment it seems to have cured the problem....
