  1. Hi all, had some problems over the last few days. 1st it was the fuel temperature sensor I fixed that Friday. now I have a fault cod P0401 exhaust gas recirculation A flow insufficient. is this an egr fault (I hope not) or a sensor fault, if so where could I find it please. Many thanks in advance Gerry.
  2. Well what do you know after a couple of days the problem is back again with a vengeance, low coolant light back on & heater not working at all now. As you might guess I wasn't best pleased, so I took it to a local garage & told them of my woes & all he did was do a pressure test on the head & told me the gasket had blown. the cost of this was no charge. so I ask why didn't the dealership do this in the 1st place & save me £650 & I could have spent that on a new gasket. (any one know how much a new gasket will cost) Looks like a call too the skoda dealership In the morning. All the best Gerry.
  3. Hi Micmac. Thanks for that info I was sort of going down that road, now I will have to find my Haynes manual & find out where to start bet its a bloody pain to do. no good asking the dealership as they said they didn't have a clue what it could be, but their happy they have my money for the work they have done, (I,m not bitter) will give it a go when I get the chance & some nice weather. Thanks again Micmac all the best Gerry.
  4. Hi pcdee I had the very same problem with mine, it all started when my water pump gave up the ghost & got a friend to change for me then the problem started & like you spent a lot of time trying to bleed it. then decided to take it to a skoda dealer to sort it out, they said it would mean the removal of the new pump as I could not guarantee it was a genuine part (it wasn't) plus he put it in with mastic & this clogged up the egr valve. that was that problem solved but my heater still does not work just blows cold air until I put my foot down then it blows hot but goes cold again. so if you sort heater out I would be great full to find out. all the best Gerry.
  5. I have a similar problem with my EGR so I cleaned it with carb cleaner but no good, I was going to strip it down but wasn't to sure on how to go about this. But now looking at those pictures I feel a bit more confident to have a go now. I may have a go at it sometime very soon. Many thanks Gerry.
  6. Looks like that's the way to go then, so thank you all for your help & hope to let you know the outcome when I get the chance to take it in. will be away at the end of the month so will try then need the car right now, will keep some water in the boot just in case. All the best Gerry
  7. well that's not what I wanted to hear looks like a trip to the garage then, but before I do that I will try the other idea 1st when I get home tonight (clutching at straws here) but who knows. Failing that does any one know how much it will cost for a head gasket as its done 170.000 miles but only a 55 plate is it worth having done. ???? Thank you both for your advice all the best Gerry.
  8. A little update, today I went for a long run on the motorway & my temp gauge warning light came on (low on water) so I left it to cool down while I was at work. the header tank was empty but when I took the cap of a loud hiss telling me it was still under pressure, I wasn't expecting that if I had a water leak & it only took about half a cup of water to bring the levels back up again. Would be great full for any ideas all the best Gerry.
  9. Thanks for that but no the needle goes up to 90 with normal driving & is cold then it drops to about 80-85 then it gets hot (sometimes) But I know if I put my foot down it will get hot eventually, then it could stay hot all day then sometimes not. a bit confused . com.
  10. Had this problem a couple of weeks now, I thought it was an air lock at 1st but not sure now. The temp goes up to 90 still blowing cold air then it drops to 80-85 then it gets hot, then back up to 90 then its cold again & so on. Also If I keep the speed to about 70 it stay hot but if I drop down to about 40 or 50 it go gets cold Again. I have heard about the heater blades ?? but not sure what they are & where they are, plus can I do this or is this a job for the garage. One more thing I had to top up with water (about a cup full) the other day & that's a 1st. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, All the best Gerry.
  11. Well after taking my own advice last week the heater is still not working properly, so what & where are the heater flaps I have read about & can I do this job myself or has it got to go to the garage. Its starting to get cold again & snow is forecast, need some help please. Live & learn All the best Gerry.
  12. Hi I had the same problem last week & I checked the water levels, they were fine. so I removed the reservoir cap (when it cooled down) then I heard a gurgling noise & the levels dropped, topped up with water now all is good again. just need some anti freeze now. hope this is of some help, all the best Gerry.
  13. I have the same sort of problem very noisy reception, but when I stop the car & turn the engine off after about 10 seconds all the hissing stops & its nice & clear. not sure where to look next, any ideas. cheers
  14. thanks for that if I have time at the weekend I will take it out & have a look, also I was told it may be a bad earth do you know where the they are connected. All the best Gerry.
