  1. Wowsers, just logged back on this thread... i had my tensioner go as listed a while back, engine was 1 month in warranty and thankfully tensioner was replaced under warranty. Two years on now and car runs fine although likes a drink of oil, to be honest my 2003 1.8t which i had from new is still going strong on 150k miles and mapped nicely after 6 months, wow i love that car. Working for Toyota i know a thing or two about recalls, all i can say is Skodas lack of admitting a problem is disgusting and many a loyal customer is being faced with huge bills. We as a family are on our third Skoda and both my dad and father in law are on two, Skoda need to get their act together on this issue. VW as well need to do more, although knowing some VW techs they are saying VAG are just keeping quiet on this issue

I wish anyone going through this well, i know i had many a sleepless night when my 10K car went pop and im a techie more than capable of stripping the engine

    Good luck

  2. Darn it Mark, live in Bicester myself and have just had coil pack fail due to leaky rocker gasket, 4 on order from TPS Oxford for Tuesday grrrrrrrrrr

Be nice to see your motor as i used to own DaveU old black beast ;-)

  3. Pleased for you, mine was serviced on a Saturday then not started until the Monday....boom, tensioner had failed with 30k on the clock and again "luckily" had only jumped 5 teeth. Fully repaired with new tensioner and chain and has been fine since ;-)

Must say as a Toyota techie im a little irritated that VAG know about this problem, i have friends who work for all their brands and all have seen/know of the problems......

  4. Hi all. just thought i would add again to this topic.... purchased mine this time last year, serviced it myself because im an ATA service technician with Toyota, 2 days later it died..... previous owner only had variable service done less than 9 months previous and me being me i decided i would do the lot, oil air pollen fuel filters etc with a plug change for good measure. Was it he fresh oil or just the complete lousy design of the tensioner..... Luckily mine only jumped 5 teeth so engine had no damage but has thus far been fine with the new tensioner chain and slipper guides fitted.

I must say Skoda customer service was brilliant from Merrits in Aylesbury considering they had never seen the car before, they did however comment it was "nice" that i had been a Skoda owner since 2003, still have my red 03 and also the newer 60 plate...(sold DaveU`s old beast a while back)

    Keep safe

  5. Gutted for you Minm, my 2.0tsi went about a month ago (see tsi engine fail posts) Luckily mine only jumped a few teeth so no major engine damage, just new tensioner chain and an oil valve that they say was clogged????

Hold out as long as you with SUK, mine was all covered under warranty even though i had just done the last service (Toyota Tech)

  6. Nice update BB, I too have had mine resolved although mine is still under warranty, my symptoms were similar to yours and being a techie I splashed out on 4 new coils, unfortunately it was the timing that had slipped....Luckily according to the Skoda tech it had jumped 5 teeth but not enough to cause damage. New chain, tensioner and a oil valve have been fitted and all seems fine. I too have lost a little faith in the car especially as warranty runs out at the end of next month, like you I am on my 3rd Vrs (still have 03 one) my father and father in law are both on their second Octavias as well so yes we are loyal

Have to back the dealers up as well, I know what its like as I work for Toyota....guys in Aylesbury have been great
