12v “cigarette lighter” socket not working.
The one in the front stopped working a while back but the one in the back continued to be ok. Now the one in the back has stopped. I was wondering if there is a fuse somewhere that has blown. Any ideas Thanks.

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
Up date……. car was due for it’s mot and I told the garage about the problem. They said it would be a fail so I said get a new catch and fit it, the catch cost about £40 I’m not sure how much they charged to fit it because there were a couple of other small things done as well and the total Labour was £45. I appreciate that I could have saved myself a few quid and done it myself but I’ve got to the age where I’m taking the line of least resistance on lots of things. Ps I allways remember a friend of mine who was driving over Sydney Harbour Bridge when his bonnet catch came lose and the bonnet opened, folded back and smashed his windscreen. Bought traffic on the bridge to a standstill for a while.

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
Up date…… I followed the advice given and used a nice long flat metal file ( which I will now keep in the car) to move the catch from right to left to release the bonnet. I can see the three screws holding the catch (I’m not sure what “Torx” screws are) I’m hesitant about taking the catch off and cleaning it as I might not be able to get it back on again. At some point I will probably buy a replacement catch and fit it. Thanks to everyone who helped. I appreciate it. Rich

Thanks Declan. I’m going to try the long screwdriver method when I get up.

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
thanks Ken. my catch moves freely but it just doesn’t travel far enough to disengage from the bar above the grille

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
Thanks Danny. I did wonder if it was possible to use a tool to move the catch over. I will try that later. I rarely open the bonnet, but had to yesterday because my oil warning light came on and I needed to top up. I envisaged a situation where I was in some remote place, unable to open the bonnet which would have been a bit of a problem.

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
I did think of filing a bit off the “hook” section of the catch

Difficulty releasing bonnet safety catch
After releasing the bonnet via the handle in the passenger foot well, I am having a problem releasing the safety catch using the lever on the front edge of the bonnet. Eventually I managed to release the bonnet and top up the oil, but when I closed it down the problem came back. Anyone had this happen, and how did you solve it? Thanks.

Thanks Lutz. excellent video unfortunateLy that job is far beyond my capabilities. I expect replacement struts would be gather expensive so I’ll just put up with the situation. ps liked the music!

Powered tail gate has come to life.
A couple of years ago after a period of intermittent operation, my powered tailgate stopped working.. I made a few enquiries and was told it probably cost a lot of money to fix so I left it. Today it has sprung into life again. anyone have an idea why this has happened? Thanks

Strange noise coming from speaker
I had this had a while ago and I’m not sure if I posted about it on here. Now it’s happened again. Unlocked my car and before I’d opened the door I could hear a loud thumping noise at about 1 second intervals coming from the drivers door speaker. Got in and started up. Noise continued. The big satnav screen was blank. Drove about 3 miles. Twice the noise stopped then started again. Parked up and went into a shop. Came back to car and noise had gone. Drove off. Satnav screen was on, but was flashing on and off. Stopped somewhere else and went in a shop. Came back and everything was back to normal. Any ideas what this was? Thanks.

Faulty Tailgate
If it is the struts, I’ll put up with it at that price

Faulty Tailgate
I may have asked this question before. However, the powered tailgate on my Superb Estate is playing up. very occasionally it opens and shuts as normal. But most times it just unlocks, rises an inch or so then stops. I have to open it manually and it’s easier if I press the button on the fob at the same time. The in car release doesn’t help. The other key fob is the same. I did mention it to the garage when I had the MOT done and they said if it was the struts they were £300 each. Any ideas? Thanks. PS for many years I was opening and closing it several times a day in connection with my job.
