Hi folks. Glad to say mine is still going strong. At Christmas past I further installed an amp plus 4 speakers. The amp had to pass through my parrot kit. I also needed the yellow connecting block for 4 channel pre out here:

As for the maps, my cd supplied (which was a copy too) with the radio began to fail (slow to load and deeply scratched) so I ripped my own latest 2013 UK and IRE maps.
The burning process is very difficult. You'll require an older CD burner 1x and and blank JVC only CD-R. The radio is very fussy! In reality tho once the cd is in, it very rarely it gets removed.

Just a heads up. All of a sudden mine refused to turn over in an Asda car park last night whilst out shopping. First thought was the thin wire going to starter solenoid as most people suggested. Upon inspection mine was already fixed previously!
Turned out it was the EARTH lead from starter motor to chassis - directly under the battery tray. Totally worn off at the end. Cheap and easy fix!
Furthermore, although engine started with a push, the traction control and oil pressure light illuminated and beeped all the way home so the poor earth triggered that too.
Not much info on this so I'll put it out there as the alternative solution.

Walsh motors are good. They look after my fabia vrs but I've only been to have it serviced and book stamped. They do seem busy with r32's etc too

Gumtree is a good start. There's a few fabias being broke on there. If your looking rims plenty of vw etc rims will fit. If your near Belfast take a run up to prior's see what he has.

Try running a tank or two of the ultimate stuff. From experience, especially here in the north of Ireland, cheap diesel from back street garages contains a lot of crap. It's rife over here for it! Similar symptoms as you've had in the past. Also as suggested give the oil and filters a change.

Where are you buying your diesel?

Its an easy enough job to do yourself if you can remove the turbo and put it on a bench. I've done a few on the Volvo d5 and toledo tdi's.

Yep I've just checked. Marked 'E1 made in Germany' and are retread.

Huskoda they are also used for autograss, hill climbs etc. Plenty of grip so cant see it being a problem.

I'll need a box of studs and one of them tools to put them in. One reason I went for these tyres because they can be studded. I'm takin gong no chances this year after the snow we had in March!

I went for these Maxsport Alaska. Good price delivered. Very mean tread! No idea how they'll preform, there sitting ready for a cold snap.

Interesting point, the valves are anodised. Ill look into them before I actually fit tyres (that's the next step). As for the weights, surely there no different than ones on alloys? Depending on how much they need balanced I could go for inner stick on weights.

Yea there's a real smooth finish off them. First time I'd ever had a wheel refurb - and powder coating is amazing. I think my spray painting would have peeled off after a week.
Trouble is there in better condition than my current alloys!

I obtained an old set of steel rims a few weeks ago to make up a set of winter tyres.
After a disastrous attempt to paint them myself white, I opted to have them powder coated silver instead by canavans in Lurgan.
Ordered a set of green bolt in valves too. These arrived by post the day my wheels were picked up.

Most likely the fly wheel rattling. Nothing serious but a sign it will need changed soon. Not cheap either.

Hi all this is my first post. I'm a new member from Belfast, Just recently acquired my first skoda, an 06 vrs, from previously being a Volvo owner/enthusiast.
I decided to get rid of the standard Symphony radio. It was a great radio, just a little plain for my liking. I spotted the latest MFD1 on ebay - a specific skoda model which included the most recent maps and a gps aerial. I couldn't help myself! Furthermore I also bought a usb box, plug and play lead and facia trim adaptor.
My car previously had a parrot Bluetooth installed and intergraded into the speakers, again these are great little devices.
Firstly I started stripping everything out. Glove box out and radio out.
Previous wiring for Parrot was a dogs dinner. Spent some time sorting out the wiring and pinning it back behind the glove box. In the meantime whilst I was waiting on the little parts to arrive, I spent a Saturday night filling out a square hole in the spare blank button for my usb cable to mount into.
The plug and play adaptor. You need this because the MFD requires a Gala pulse to run the sat nav. Now the original wiring has a gala wire (blue and white) however this adaptor takes the gala wire and feeds it into the 26pin connector at back of MFD. The toggle switch was cut off and wires bridged. It only allows video to play when gala is off, as a safety feature, however the sat nav will cease to work accordingly.
All wires brought through. I ran the GPS aerial to the bottom left hand corner of windscreen. Aerial lead flows behind glove box. Nice and neat and you get top signal. A lot of people I hear, on the vw forums mounting the aerial onto the metal frame behind radio. The windscreen is much better.
Location of where I fitted the usb box, Earthed it onto the airbag frame.
Final result!
The navi requires setting up. Set the GALA to 8 and tyre size accordingly using the conversion chart in the weblink below. After 15 minutes of driving the MFD adjusts itself.

On another note, I sold my original CD player 'symphony' for £75 with manual not long after installing the mfd.
