  1. With petrol, I'd get 45+ mpg on steady driving, so with diesel I wouldn't be surprised to see this.
  2. Furious Rambo Often Zaps Enemies R A M B O
  3. I still think Rodius is prettier than the Actyon: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/60/SsangYong_Actyon_Sports_AX7.jpg
  4. It's not as hideous as the Multipla, but why does it wear the 500 badge anyway? It looks nothing like it, really.
  5. The jet washer protrudes from the 3rd brake light in my '03 Estate.
  6. You guys might enjoy these overtaking shenanigans with 130+ bhp engines, but if I build up some speed to comfortably overtake a car with my puny 73 bhp, and they suddenly start to accelerate, it's a proper pain.
  7. Similar problems here, with the exception that I've got the Estate, and boy, is that a pain. The ordinary universal wipers don't stick to the glass properly, and I don't feel like buying the GBP 15 original "Aero" option.
  8. The old green Felicia was called Zelda, as a portmanteau of Zelený (Green in Czech) and Felda (Diminutive of Felicia in Czech). My current Octavia is named Augustine after Octavianus Augustus. Well, I just can't do things in a simple way
  9. By the way, the whole thing costs just a little more than GBP 2500. Yes, that's four digits.
  10. I'm usually getting a rash when I need to deal with local anything, save for recommendations from friends. Parts, gadgets, tools, all ordered and delivered from an e-shop in a timely manner. Voting with my wallet.
  11. I don't think 'old' is accurate. They simply don't support that functionality. Generally speaking, the e-mail is from the new address. Certain e-mail hosts run applications that allow you "impersonate" the original server, so the mail is sent from the old address (Google does that in Google Apps, but those aren't free any more. And I think that any host that uses IceWarp as the web application provides that, but I'm not entirely sure about that). Ad POP3/IMAP: That is the method of checking out the e-mails from the server. If you have folders on the server (i. e. they are synchronized across all clients), you have IMAP. If not, there's a good chance you have POP3.
  12. Kudos on having them finally installed after all that pondering in the other thread!
  13. I don't have a Fabia, but I have an Octavia from the same era. My HUD sits well with my fill-up calculations. On long journeys, the average shows 50 MPG, and on short ones (not so frequent), it goes down to 25-ish. The result can be found in my signature.
  14. There's a study (I forgot the name and aren't really keen on an hour of googling unless you guys really request it) that says that a fully electric car, even when powered strictly by coal-produced electric power, produces only 40% of total environmental pollution of a very economical diesel car (60 MPG or so). That includes energy and resources for making and disposing of 2 sets of lithium batteries, and most of that resources is actually aluminium and water (lithium makes up only a tiny fraction of a percent of the battery's mass). I don't like saying that, but if that study is true, it makes no sense tinkering with hybrids as we know them and go fully electric or diesel-electric.
  15. I'm afraid it's mostly down to googling. I can't help you much there as I don't really know what exactly some of the mentioned things are (e. g. what headlight cover you have in mind). TBH, I'm pretty new to actual motoring.
  16. If you couldn't get anything in the UK, you could buy from CC autodily (a czech shop, sends to UK for GBP 20): www.cc-autodily.cz . The shop is only in Czech, but you can search by part no. I could help you if you were stuck there.
  17. I disapprove for various reasons: a) Lack of alternatives People need to go places, and unless viable alternatives are in place, no tax whatsoever is going to fix anything (unless you just want to increase the influx to the treasury). I am from the Czech Republic, and using a car for 2 people is less expensive than ANY sort of public transportation (unless you're going between major cities where there is a lot of competition in public transport), let alone about up to 100% faster. I can imagine the situation in Britain being similar. b ) It is more ecological to keep an old car running than to scrap it and build a new one. Building a new car with 10 more MPGs requires more energy and resources than your lower MPG car is ever going to produce. Even the Green Party says so. c) This tax falls most heavily on the less well situated, because they can't afford economical/ecological cars. It's them who use old cars because that's all they can afford. You don't want to put more tax burden on the lower classes, that hurts the economy, the society, and IMHO is just wrong. Let alone the fact that if you take mobility from them, maintaining a job gets much, much harder (first hand experience). The rich folks with Lamborghinis will get it licensed as a taxi cab (dozens of cases in London) or get a certificate as a disabled person (hundreds of cases in the Czech Republic). d) A failed example in the Czech Republic We have an example of this 'ecological' tax. There is a one on selling used, unecological cars (less than Euro 3 rating, incl.) of CZK 10 000 (about GBP 300) the first time it gets sold. However, for the law not to be so "inconsiderate", there's an exemption for disabled people, so that if one of the parties is disabled, no tax needs to be paid. You guessed it, now we have a thriving "black market with disabled people" for selling used cars to avoid that tax. e) Vehicular traffic isn't even the main pollutant of the atmosphere I couldn't get data for the UK, but if you look at the Czech Republic, trasportation isn't the main pollutant in ANY of the measured particles: http://issar.cenia.cz/issar/core/objects/generate_graph.php?id_document=1834&id_object=Graf_4 . Yes, it makes up a sizeable chunk of NOx, but that can't be solved by simply taxing unecological cars. I hope I've presented enough evidence that this is really not the way to go, thank you.
  18. Try Evolution. It's free and open source. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/E-mail/E-mail-Clients/Evolution-for-Windows.shtml
  19. IDK about you guys, but I love the simple and understated interior of the skodas. I spent 10 minutes in the new Focus and felt like I was in an amusement park.
  20. Created a profile on Fuelly with my first to-the-brim fuel up. 40 MPG!

  21. It's a bit silly, but have you checked your parking spot for presence of lamp posts or other bird-friendly arrangements? Parking in a different spot (that wasn't situated under a lamp post) 50 metres from my house saved me a lot of headache with bird crap.
  22. The xenon lights' luminosity falls just below the legal limit for washers and autolevelling system, so they will most likely be easily retrofittable.
  23. Yes, you can live without it. Do you want to? No. I have no aircon in my MkI Octavia and it's quite a pain in hot weather or in rain (mist).
  24. If I remember correctly, every single Skoda was ridiculously overpriced at launch. Maybe it's a strategy! - Let a few people beta test it, then we polish it and sell it for a normal price.
  25. You can't always guess right what will work with people. Hard plastics really don't, but the key-operated filler cap apparently does. Journalists were complaining about the latter, but IMHO it doesn't matter.
