Thanks very much, by the serrated cable I guess you mean the one that can go in several different slots in the handle, it is short and fits back into the lock? Well, I think you could be onto something, because before when I opened the door the handle would come out a few mm before pulling the cable. Now as I open the door their is no play, it it quite tight. So I will loosen it a few teeth first. I personaly haven't had window opening enabled, but have read a thread if you hold key in open position using fob it will open the windows, so as I had never tried that Im not sure. And I will make sure the door card is off, having no way of opening the door at all last week I was ready to scrap the car!! Its been a very expensive year, new turbo and steering rack plus window reg and door lock.. But carefully hitting the door by the lock whilst using the key opened it eventualy, this might help someone one day. By the way I fitted a new window regulator before I fitted the new lock, and the problen only arose when the new lock was fitted and I didnt need to touch the electrics for that. Hi, had exactly the same with mine, the car had been standing so long with previous owner, and they just got so slow until they stopped. So I took the whole mechanism out, the scuttle is really fiddly, and stripped it down, the shaft the arms connect to had completely seized, and I had to use heat to get them apart. I cleaned up the sleve and shafts with wet and dry and Wd40, re packed it with grease and vasseline, that was 3 yrs ago. Took about an hour.

I recently stupidly locked myself in my Octavia,pressing the keyfob. Rather than just pressing it again to open, I pulled the handle, snapped the cable inside and deadlocked the lock...expensive mistake..so I got an aftermarket lock and cable...all fitted and works great, however sometimes when I lock the door, (with keyfob)it sounds like the solenoid does another bzz and all the windows open ! Bit worrying the first time to come back to the car and find all the windows open.. I have been sent a new lock, but before I go to all that trouble again, has anybody any ideas if it could be anything else like a loose wire or mebe the lock not fitted correctly?

Thanks guys, defo the turbo gone, just weighing up wheather its worth doing, turbo labour , egr clean out and my cambelt is due..... but the car is imaculate.

Help, think my turbo just gone, 1.9tdi,X reg, has been noisy for years, with a wa wa wa sound on the throttle off, but the last week it has had a metalic sound coupled with the car being very slow and juddery when cold, I wasnt to worried as ive had it before 3 times and its cleared itself with some turbo cleaner, not this time, the noise turned into a loud whistle, thought the cops were after me,,, then loud grinding noise, then limp mode... still drives, no turbo, and no smoke???? Any ideas, and jf it it turbo, how much am I looking at? The car is well maintained , black elegance .... thanks any help would be great

Also there is a new product ive found that will clean the vanes without any dismantling. Ill post some more info v soon

Hi sorry for delay. Can you decribe the noise? Mines come back again now. Mainly when its cold or just started from hot. Its worse in third if you accelerate hard. Its almost a metalic wa wa wa sound and the engine stutters or coughs when it does it.

Hi. Well a turn up for the books this morning , pulls like a train. No noise no juddering no coughing, and a sweet turbo whistle.. When she got hot there was a bit of resistance in third and a grumble from the turbo Im going to check all the pipework incase there is a crack that opens more when its hot..

Thanks mate tbh, I hate looking under the bonnet......Ill fix any petol car like my granada, but this scares me....which pipes do I check and where. Update..... the noise is now louder and when i throttle down the engine seenes to shake as well, not badly. Giving a run last week helped....

Hi, ive a 2001 octavia 110 tdi elegance. I have always had a weird noise that seems to be getting worse lately. Ive had the noise since i bought it at 119,000, its now done 138,000. Basically if you rev the engine at standstil, when you throttle off , there is a wa wa wa wa, noise, lately its got worse and you can hear it when the revs drop between 2nd to 3rd gearchange. The other day, the noise was coupled with the car coughing while accelerating in 3rd.there is never smoke, I do also have the occasional turbo cut out, which resets fine when restarting. Today ive given it a damm good thrashing and added some diesel magic, (which is amazing stuff) and its better but not right. The engine is due a service as well. But I always change the oil and filter every 12 months... any ideas fellas? Is the turbo on way out or js it something worn or jammed... thanks

thanks mate, ill give it a go wen ive any time,, used diesel magic and turbo, now working, but 500revs later than normal, so only a matter of time before it clogs up again..... was your symptoms the same as mine? Thanks

Can anyone help? my turbo has lost power at low revs, I was stuck in traffic for ages the other day, and then lost turbo. (2000 1.9tdi elegance ) This happened 2 yrs ago when I had the tracking done, the garage left the engine running while they did the tracking, they faffed about so much, it was on tickover for ages, then it went into limp mode on the way home, I just kept thrashing it until it cleared then it was fine. I have done the same this time and its getting better, turbo is back, but when i stop and re start its gone again. It comes back after a few mins.( Ive only used it twice on a short trips since this happened ).. Is it a sticky vane again? Whats the cure... Thanks

Can anyone help? Really foggy here this morning, so put all fog lights on, and heated mirrors everything, on my x reg 2000 1.9 tdi,,drove a mile, to drop my mate at work, stopped read paper for 20 mins, , turned on ignition and a terrible smell like TCP came into car then smoke from, the dash by the dash dimmer switch, i guess from behind fusebox. not alot about as much as from striking a match...I took the key out sharpish, sheepishly started car, everything fine, everything works, been fine all day..the only thing i can think of is my towbar electrics, i was advised dosent light the rear fog light on the test plate, and i used rear fog light for the first time in 2yrs today? Or, since this happened the glow plug light goes out very quick instead of staying on for a few secs, I could be grabbing at straws. Should i check fuse board? there is still a stink in the car...Scared what i will find, any ideas would be a great help . thanks Rik

Can anyone help? my passenger door wont open from outside, inside is fine, i removed door card and found with a torch, a tiny cable from the outer handle had come off.. Fast forward a year and I decide to fix it. Local skoda dealer sell me a bowden cable, which is 2ft long and goes between inner handle and lock, not that mine was fine. I do some research on here and find how to remove the part of the outer handle which on the drivers door housed the barrel, all good,removed it put the cable back in, worked perfectly.......until i locked car with remote key... now its deadlocked, can't open from outside or inside, .....it locks and unlocks ok,,, now, if I smack the outer door below the handle the outer and inner handles work fine, until I lock the car, then I have to smack it again... Anyone any ideas what I have done wrong. The only other thing I have done is remove drivers door card at the same time for a general check up on the window reg. Hi i have a 2000 1.9tdi with 120k. I have a noise, always been there, if im stationary and rev it a little , as i take my foot off the throttle there is a noise, just for a second or 2 like i duno a metalik sort of sound like something needs oiling , ive put 12.000 miles on it and its always been there, but more noticable in the last few days. the turbo works fin apart from the occasional overboost prob. just had new alternator tensioner and belt last week, and think garage would have said if there was a prob,, any ideas guys.. Bin an expensive 18 months new rack, new front spring new rear spring new fusebox on battery new window regulator ( I did that lol ) and this week 2 new lower suspension arms and alternator tensioner and belt.. :( so hope this isnt anything serious ) ...

Thanks for help mates, just got it in the garage. severely worn bushes on lower suspension arms, so had 2 new arms fitted, all seems fine, it was getting so bad it sas like sailing a boat all over the place..

Just had alternator tensioner and belt done and i think if there was a prob the garage would have said .plus the turbo works ok . been an expensive 2 yrs, steering rack, front spring rear spring battery fusebox window regulator, arb bushes and 2 new lower suspension arms ( last week with tensioner ) so I hope its nothing bad :(... bought it cos it was supposed to be reliable, any ideas ... Thanks

Thanks mate, will do it in the morning, guess what, they worked perfectly all day just to annoy me:(.... but packed in tonight...your right about cost.. Skoda garage £39,, ebay... new £12 fre p&p next day delivery as well !
