  1. Just changed our VRS TDi estate for a new 230 in black - with red decals that we love - but for some reason can't upload any photos?

Have uploaded three pictures to galleries - if anyone can advise how to link them here (site says maximum amount reached - one photo of my 'old' VRS) it would be appreciated!

    Hang on...success!

  2. Any idea if the rubber boot mat will also fit (at least slightly, if not properly) a car with the VBF?

I have a VRS Estate with VBF and a Skoda (Dealer supplied) rubber mat - it fits perfectly BUT:

    - its a pain to access the 'underfloor' due to the weight of it sitting on top

    - you can't use the rubber mat when the floor is lowered as it's too big

To be honest, I don't use the lower floor regularly, I needed the VBF for a flat load bay to load tools and equipment, hence the rubber mat for protection. I had mine thrown in as part of the deal, but think they are around £60 from Skoda Dealers.

  3. Great photos, thanks. Does the towbar have a lock, my old Mk2 has a securing/locking arm to hold the swan neck in place, this in turn has a lock on it to stop robbers/pranksters from taking the swan neck section.

    Regards

    T

    Hi themanwithnoaim,

Yes, the tow bar has a lock and two keys. The swan neck cannot be removed from the car when locked (well, not without a lot of noise and some fairly heavy duty tools!)

    Cheers - Happy New Year!

  4. It's left open, but you can't see it and as it's been done by the Dealer I have a full three year warranty on the work. There is a removable plastic cover that sits in the hole where the tow bar goes to prevent detritus getting into the fitment area.

In addition I read the installation manual and there appears to have been quite a lot of protective gunk applied to the relevant areas, so I am happy with my choice!

  5. Hi all,

Well, rain has stopped - just. Wind still howling and, oh look, it's raining again. Anyway, I have taken photos of the car with/without the tow and have attached them to this thread for you.

It's a Skoda detachable tow bar and it was £375 all in, fitted by Telfords in Carlisle.

The pictures are not on the same post as I still can't figure out how to do this (I did Look at Dropbox, but that seemed too much like hard work!)

    OK, on with the show.

Here's the car without the tow bar:post-106713-0-93953600-1387877280_thumb.jpg

And the underneath of the car without the tow bar, i.e. the fitting area:post-106713-0-18552600-1387877332_thumb.jpg

  6. The thread title also infers that some dealerships are reluctant to fit them. Why? As this product would normally be considered to be a "no problem" D.I Y fitment.

So my frustration really is the lack of clarity given by Skoda UK, FOR DEALER /CUSTOMER FITTED OPTIONS.

I didn't mean to upset you Fatfudgecat,(Christmas Stressy state)  thanks for the photos as they help with appreciating the affect on the overall look.

It would have been interesting to understand if the Dealership experienced any issue when installing the product.

Fitting mine in the New Year.

Agree with you Fatfudgecat about the purpose of the forum.

So a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.

    vrskeith

    No problem vrskeith!

Also, spoke to Dealer and they were expecting problems with the fitting, but they had none at all; so any competent DIY enthusiasts should be able to fit these at home.

    Merry Christmas to everyone!

  7. Thanks both. I'd never really thought of the protection elements but that's a good justification of the outlay in itself. Just need to decide whether to pay the £142 quoted by me dealer or give it a go myself.

Hi skovirg, I think that £110 is the 'approved' Skoda menu price for this; another member told me this and when I spoke to Telfords in Carlisle (without prompting) they quoted this figure too and fitted mine for this. Might be worth double-checking with you Dealer? Also, my Dealer said the MKIII protection was better than the MKII, but I've had them fitted anyway!

  8. Hi vrskeith, I fitted the last front set on my MKII without any issues. There seemed to be a question mark over whether the MKIII's would fit or not. Having paid over £26K for my car (like most other MKIII owners) I wasn't about to try and save a few pounds by possibly either not being able to fit these, or fitting them badly. I don't really understand your comment here, I simply put photos on to show another member that mud flaps can be fitted. Title of thread asks which dealers will fit, so I added this information too. I have also added a picture of the whole car, as asked by jbyrnes82.

I'm not on this forum to score points, or upset anyone, just thought I might be able to help out others who were unsure about an issue - isn't that what this is all about?

  9. We love in the back of beyond - mudflats stop quite a lot of muck cladding onto the numbers, but won't stop the dirty water 'spray'. Agree with 'littleade' here too - had to have my first MKII sills treated and repainted due to stone chip damage so had fronts put on my second MKII and all four to my new estate. They are very discrete and won't upset anyone. Plus there's no special fitting so they can be removed if required.

  10. The flaps look fine. Are you expecting a heavy winter up there.

Just the norm I guess this time of the year.

We southern softies don't get the same sort of fun as you.

You can't really see them, to be honest, which is what I wanted.

Mainly put on to keep the mud off the sill/bumpers. I had a problem with my '08 VRS where the continual barrage of mud/stones damaged the car and I had to have the sills/bumpers treated and repainted.

But yes, in the snow, the winter tyres and mud flaps should keep me sane, and on the road!

  11. Is this not expensive....especially when it appears these flaps can be bought for less than 15euro in Ireland??

Hi APoll; yes, at £110 fitted they are quite pricey. I've just spent £26K on the car and really didn't want to risk spoiling it by buying the wrong parts or struggling to fit incorrect parts properly. I know where you're coming from though!

  12. I see your running avons, winter tyre or just been through a set already lol

    quote name="Fatfudgecat" post="3539050" timestamp="1386453903"]Hi Parsey83,

Just had mine fitted today by Dealer - went straight on without any problems. £110 fitted, parts were £74 I think, fitted the last fronts to my old MKII VRS but for the £36 simply didn't have the time/inclination to fit to my MKIII.

    They are pretty inconspicuous:attachicon.gifimage.jpgattachicon.gifimage.jpg

No, they are winters, fitted as soon as I took delivery. Pretty good in the snow/ice too!
