  1. He'll need more than polish to buff that out! http://www.sheptonmalletjournal.co.uk/White-van-man-nearly-blows-polishing-dashboard/story-26141872-detail/story.html
  2. Hi, I've just finished the last of the turbo detailed, and restocked with BSD! There is nothing wrong with the turbo version other than it lasts just a bit less than BSD. I stand by my first quote in that it gives a slicker finish with a bit more gloss, but for the price you can't beat BSD.
  3. Some of the early diesel vrs' didn't have them, I only found out that mine didn't have one when a friend on here was sorting a few things out with VCDS and he noticed that the coding was missing from the car.
  4. Mine has had this fault for over a year now, but because it's intermittent and never been witnessed by the dealer/mechanic, they refuse to do anything about it, on the last service the dealer told my wife that if it happens again that she should try and video it! Lost faith with the dealer but not sure what to do now. Good luck in getting it fixed/replaced please keep us informed.

Really smart wheel and colour combo, I like it, a lot.
  6. Car is mainly driven by the other half with the kids in, so is far from being driven hard. I'm of the same school of thought as you pipsyp re the pads - I have a Audi A4 company car with 54k on the clock and no pads required yet. I did challenge the need for the discs and they just fobbed me off with 'that's what we would recommend' Looks like I'll be taking it elsewhere from here on in. Thanks for the quick response gents.
  7. So the car has been for its second service and the dealer rings me up to say that the front brake pads are 70% worn (just less than 21k on the clock), and that, if I wanted, I could have the pads done with the service - at a price obviously - but they also said that they recommend that with each change of pads they change the discs as well! I declined their offer for both as I wanted to inspect the pads myself to check their 'technicians claims' and have a look at the discs to see how much wear could be on them after only 20k miles or so. I've yet to take the wheel off to look at the pads in daylight, but had a feel of the discs and to be honest there is very little wear on them with about a fingernails width lip on the edge of the disc, certainly no more than I would suspect. Can this be right about changing the discs every time you get a set of pads? I would like to think the pads would last longer then this anyway, I know they quoted 70% worn so still some way to go before actually needed. Incidentally they originally quoted £240 for both pads and discs, but if I had them done at the time of the service it would be £180.
  8. How rude, repay the favour, and get a load of damp leaves, heap them up in the back garden, and when the wind is right set the heap on fire and smoke the buggers out!
  9. We had a similar thing with a transit van at work, where it caught fire with no obvious signs. The fitters reckon that there was a hole in the piston, which was drawing oil into the cylinder which was then drawn down the exhaust to the CAT which in turn caught fire. The lads said that it was running like a bag of sh1te prior to it happening (which you'd expect with a hole in the piston) so I would say the missus would have known something was wrong when she took it to the shops! Just a theory...oh and the van was a 12 plate with 60k on the clock.
  10. A few photos taken on Saturday morning, the car was washed the previous weekend and finished with a home hybrid of Poorboys QD+ and Sonax Turbo Detailer(50:50) sitting on top of a 3 month old coating of Gtechniq C2v3.
  11. No worries Mence, good luck with picking out your ideal vRS, a word of warning on the pictoris wheels, they are not the best to clean as they have those thin slits in the spokes and are hard to get in properly, and they seem to be a magnet for brake dust!
  12. That's gotta be worth all your hard graft in the heat the other day. Looks great.
  13. Good effort in this weather, I've abstained from doing mine because of the heat and I have no shade where the car is parked.
  14. What a shame that this hasn't really worked in the way you wanted, thanks for giving it a go and sharing the outcome. I'm interested in this kind of experimentation to see if you can get a best of both worlds scenario. Has anybody actually spoken to Sonax and expressed that we all love the durability and hydrophobic quality of BSD but would like a bit more in the way of gloss and slickness? Do they even have a customer feedback line of communication?
  15. It's got just over 14k on the clock now. This'll be my sixth car bought from new, and it's the one that's had the most issues by far, it might just be the mythical Friday afternoon car!
  16. Well we've had the car nearly a year now and it's been back to the dealers today for the fourth time for a warranty fix. This time an airbag light came on with associated warning message, and the dealer took it in and diagnosed a faulty battery not holding it's charge and have changed it...we'll wait and see if this indeed is the cause of its latest hiccup! Since we got the car, it went back with less than 250miles on the clock and needed a new set of fuel injectors. The second time it went back was for a faulty drivers side window mechanism, which was replaced, and the the third time was for the bolero head unit that had (and still does have, as the fault cannot be found/traced) a mind of its own and will randomly change radio stations or different tracks on a CD, and now this. Now I'm not one for superstition but this is a 13 plate car, and it will be my last! I love the car and the dealer has been great and prompt in getting these fixed, so it's not all bad, I just get the feeling that some quality corners have been cut, as the mk2 we had ran faultless for two years before we traded it in for this car. I'll give it another year and see what deals can be done on a new vRS around Easter time, the 280ps vRS might be on the scene then!
  17. After reading on another topic thread on here with interest about mixing two different detailing products to get a supposedly supercharged hybrid I decided to give it a go last night. The two items that I chose where Gtechniq C2v3 and Sonax' Turbo Detailer, for no real reason other than I had these in the garage and I wanted to give it a go for myself. I only mixed a small quantity (20mm of each) for a trial run and mixed in equal parts (50:50), and decanter-ed into a small spray bottle that I robbed from my daughters art draw - she's 6 and won't miss it! The sonax stuff is quite a bit thicker than the C2v3 but they did mix well together. My test subject was my company car as the wife was out in our vRS, and I only tested it on the boot lid and the high rear quarter panels, as the light was fading and it was starting to spit with rain. The result was quite good, getting the lovely silky smooth finish of the C2v3 with a nice gloss of the turbo detailer. This test was done in haste and the panels tested were just washed and dryed prior to getting a spray, in other words not fully prepped, so I'm not expecting the last word in durability. I took a few photos on the ipad and the car is a white car so maybe the pics don't do it justice.
  18. Good to know Chris, please pardon my ignorance. Am I right in thinking that we are just combining QD's or a mixture of sealants and QD's. The reason I ask is that I have some Gtechnic C2v3 that I could mix with Sonax' turbo detailer that I bought the other week, would this work....or is it just a case of mix a bit (50:50) and test on a single panel and go from there?
  19. Is it ok to be mixing different chemicals together? I'm all for giving stuff a go, but what is the risk, and how safe is it? Are certain things a no-no combination?
  20. Wow, more wax! There can't be a panel on your Passat that requires yet more wax. I do however admire your latest choice. Are you going to wait until you've finished with the fusso or are you going to strip back and start again?
  21. Wow, that looks brilliant, good work. I like the sunset reflection shot, almost like the paint is on fire!
  22. Right, I received the turbo detailer at on Friday and gave the company car a quick going over to see how it went. Its hard not to make comparisons with BSD and there are subtle differences, firstly it has a floral smell to it that's not too unpleasant, and it has a similar consitancy as BSD but it's less grabby, and to my eyes it gave a glossier finish. The next day when I was out it rained, and the beading was very impressive, and an easy equal to BSD. For the record, my works car was polished using SRP 4 weeks ago and topped with BSD 2 weeks ago. Longevity wise, it seams to be performing well, another light shower today and beading was excellent, but it's maybe to early to tell. In conclusion, I'm very happy with it and it's well worth a punt, you won't be disappointed. Is it as good as BSD? Very much so -IMO- it just loses out on price. Sorry no pics, but I plan on doing the family motor this weekend and I'll take a few then.
