  1. Hi folks, am struggling with my headlights. Have an 07 roomster 3 and doing minimum of 60 miles a day on rural roads. The dipped beam is acceptable (just) but the main beam seems little different to the dipped, doesn't light up much, not much higher, is slightly to one side and patchy in light. When looking at the bulbs head on it looks fine but not when driving. Replaced the bulbs a few months ago (with just standard bulbs) but no difference again. My wife's Toyota urbancruiser lights up so much more and even our old campervan lights up nearly to Jupiter with the front spots!

Have seen posts on Osram and Philips bulbs but don't want to spend more if the headlights seem just the same. It keeps passing MOT's and services flag up nothing. I would happily upgrade if it meant an improvement and maybe also replace the front fogs - how easy is it to get in to the front fog bulbs?

Just as an aside, I had major problems getting into to change the sidelight bulbs but for anyone trying, who values the skin on their hands lol, a strong thin crocodile clip was perfect to get into the stupid useless metal housing around the bulb holder - grip the holder, twist and remove, wish I had known about that tip at the start, would have saved hours of trying!

Thanks in advance of some help :)

  2. Hi, I had same problem, linkage broken. Got someone to drill it out and bolt it instead which lasted a couple of days before nut fell off! but I took apart again and re-bolted with normal nut and nyloc. Fairly easy to get to, take caps and nuts off wipers - might have to put a cloth or clamp on arms and tap with a hammer, mine were on solid, then take rubber strip off and two nuts off the tray under the bonnet that fits under the windscreen, carefully draw it forward and past the bonnet (washer tubes still attached) and you will see the broken linkage. Apparently you need to replace the whole linkage and motor as things don't come apart easily so definitely worth drilling the fixing out or getting someone to and bolting securely with a little bit of play between the first nut and the lower nyloc. I have used about a 10 - 12mm bolt about 40 - 50mm long. There is just enough room to get a socket on the top of the bolt and an adjustable on the nuts :)

  3. ok, some form of progress lol, sprayed everything I could easily get to with contact cleaner tonight including the fuses and took the battery off for half an hour. Still nothing though window switches still light up. Then, noticed I had left interior light on, went to passenger door and just for the hell of it tried that switch and IT WORKED! then didn't later :(

Took drivers switch back out and apart and noticed quite a lot of moisture on the printed circuit and rubber pad, dabbed these dry and sprayed with contact cleaner. Am I getting any closer? lol, had nothing previously for 3 weeks!

  4. phew! that is quite a list, have 14 watchers on ebay so may not be necessary in the end but would have liked to have sorted them.

I have changed the battery recently but the windows worked after it was changed. No other units have been changed as I have had the car since new. Would it be ok to disconnect the battery to reboot? for how long? and can this affect other things?

  5. Hi, nothing seems loose, also seems really awkward to get the rubber boot off to get the connectors out, presumably if I can check for power at the switch end that would mean having to cut the cable tie and removing the inner black connector as my multimeter seems too big to check the contacts on the light brown plug? is that a good start. Really wish I could have a wiring diagram to work through things, or just click my fingers and everything would be ok :). Is so annoying when I get 13 months MOT on the car to sell then the windows stop working :(

  6. Hi all, still no luck with my electric windows in 55 plate 1.2 fabia. Have put it on ebay but might have one last try. Have seen so many conflicting things online as to whether or not there is a relay or relays for the windows or whether there is a thermal fuse at the motor instead? any help would be appreciated as neither of the 2 switches i have work at all (the lock / unlock buttons still work) no wires seem loose either and the window fuses seem ok but nothing moves at all and i can't try it with the door key as that no longer turns either! the key fob windows function mustn't work in my model so kind of stuck.........:(
