  1. That fixed the boot light not working and the corresponding dashboard door open light not working but I've still got a few problems to fix.. Any ideas?
  2. Found first issue - rear windscreen hose had become disconnected where the CD player used to be. The whole compartment was filling up with water when the washer was on. It then drained through the drain hole where the blue pipe goes so in under a minuite it was empty again. I never noticed anything! Anyway one of the pins is completely missing, most of the others have corroded and there is quite a lot of damage to the plastic parts of the connectors. I think I'll try just cutting the whole lot off and replacing with some crimps unless anyone has any better ideas. On another note I've never had much power between 1200-1500RPM, particularly when cold. I've changed the air mas meter and it made it a little bit better. When the turbo kicks in you really notice it because before then it just feels like its limping along. Leaky breather hose perhaps?
  3. My MK1 elegance has slowly been developing fauls with the door wiring over the last couple of years and I'm finally getting around to having a go at fixing them. I hope that this is all due to water ingress in a connnector somewhere and I was wondering if anyone might help me trace it.. I replaced the driver door loom a couple of years ago due to water ingress destroying 5 of the pins in the connector, I've just had a look today and connector looks fine, theres a bit of green arond the window motor pins but that was from before. The main issuse is that the rear NS passanger door no longer locks / unlocks with central locking, door led on dashboard does not light up. The window also has stopped opening too. - I've just replaced the door lock with an ebay special and no change. I had the same problem with the rear FS passager door not unlocking and a new lock fixed it. The boot lights do not go on when the boot opens and the LED on the dashboard does not light up. Also last winter the rear wiper would go on if the front wiper was off (and I seem to remember the dashboard LED would go on when the rear wiper was off or maybe the other way around). This seemed to have fixed itself but will probabily come back when the weather gets worse.. The last thing is that the relay under the hazard light button can get into a clicking fit usually after cancelling an indicator. Nothing else seems to happen.. My guess is a faulty relay or dirty indicator contacts. Any help would be much appreciated!
  4. I've got torque so I'll take it for a drive to get some graphs of vacuum / rpm / boost. It even takes a second to go from 1k to 1.5k when in neutral. As long as I don't drive below 1.5k rpm when accelerating the car feels OK. At 1.7k you get a real kick in the back from the turbo kicking in. Computer is under by 5mpg.
  5. I've not had a look at the intercooler yet but the car feels under fueled and never smokes even under heavy acceleration so I don't think its losing air. When the weathers a bit better I'll take it off and give it a clean. The computer is out by around 5MPG on average and the actual fuel consumption isn't actually that bad, it's just the power that's lacking.
  6. Which ones are the lower boost connections? The boost pressure was tested and was OK. Do you know how the computer calculates fuel consumption? I had assumed that it measured the fuel at the injectors but it's so inaccurate that it must be doing something else.. Maybe something like just using the throttle position sensor and speed. If the injectors were slightly blocked would the ECU measure actual fuel rate and compensate for it or does it use some sort of feed forward control? It feels like the car is running lean.. What sort of MPG should I expect on a motorway trip with this engine? (70-80mph, 3 people)
  7. I've checked both the coolant and the engine temperature and the both are held at 90C once the engine has warmed up.
  8. Hi I'm trying to find out whats wrong with my skoda and I thought you guys might be able to help.. I've got no power below 1.7k revs and the fuel efficiency isn't great. It takes around 3 seconds in first gear to go from 1k to 1.5k revs in 1st and the fuel efficiency on the dash reads 39mpg doing 70mph on the flat. Actual MPG is a bit better, I got 44mpg on a 300 mile motorway trip. There are no fault codes. I've had it tested and the mechanic can't find whats wrong apart from he said that the turbo is a bit slow. I've already replaced the MAF sensor and this made a huge difference to the power at low revs but there is still a fault somewhere.. I've cleaned the turbo with the mr muscle treatment, done a good italian tune, put a bottle of injector cleaner through it, done a full service (all filters + oil), cam belt, aux belt and water pump but none of these made any difference. There was also some oil residue on the surface of the coolant but the garage was almost certain that it was the oil cooler so I've replaced that and hopefully that will clear it up. Can anyone help? Cheers!
