Cheers. Appreciate the advice.
Service history is essential :)

I'm looking at getting back into Skoda after having an A4 for a few years. My Octavia Mkii VRS was my favourite car ever!
I'm currently looking at Superb Estate Mkiii's. A few of the examples for sale are quite high mileage (70-90k on a TDI engine). Is there anything I should be looking out for or be wary of in potentially buying one of these?
Thanks in advance :)

Hi,
Would you consider selling 2 neptunes rather than 4? (assuming they're still available).
Chris.

Thank you so much to all the contributors in this thread. I've spent the last few nights trying to revive my unit from the boot loop that some have mentioned. Installing new firmware following the steps here seems to have fixed the problem.
After burning 7 DVDs that ended up in the bin, used ImgBurn and it worked first time.

Get your mate to do it with genuine parts. Does he have VW diagnostics ??
Yeah, he has VCDS and he always uses genuine parts.

Got a bit of a dilemma over servicing.
My 2009 VRS has done 68000 miles and is due a major service. It'll be £249 from the main dealer. It has had main dealer services it's whole life. I've had the car for just over a year and plan on keeping it at least another 3, possibly 5 years.
There is an alternative:
My best mates uncle owns a garage and always sends any VAG work to a friend of his who worked for VW for 20 years and is now semi-retired and just doing bits and bobs for people. My best mate has been sending his 2 old Audi's direct to this bloke for a while now as he does a really good quality job for about half the price of a normal garage.
Should I get this bloke to do the service (for probably around £90)? It might end up not looking very good on the service history, but I'll know a good job has been done. Will it drop the resale value when I come to sell it (which will probably at around 7-9 years old with around 100k on the clock)?
Opinions?

My mate with vcds enabled the coming home lights on my 59 vrs. It does have auto headlights, not sure if its possible without that.
-
I only do 8-9k miles a year so would never have fitted one myself, but my second hand Octy came with a CK3100. Really impressed with it. Very easy to use and integrates well with the standard radio.

Congrats. Tdi or tfsi?
-
That's what I though. Thanks Rover.

I'm thinking of buying a Golf MkIV 4Motion to sit alongside my Octy VRS. Borrowed a VCDS cable from an Audi obsessed mate, and did a full scan on a car I saw this afternoon. Only a couple of fault codes, which isn't too bad to say its an 11 year old car. One looks like an ABS sensor which seems an easy and cheapish fix. The ABS light is on on the dash, so that would explain that one. I'm slightly cocerned about the fault code on the Haldex AWD system. Seems like this could be a potential disaster.
Any insight would be great. Full readout below. Thanks.

Ended up with Michelin PS3s on. Really happy with them so far. Grip on hill starts in the wet is phenomenal.

This happened to my 2009 vrs last month for the first time after owning it for a year. A good clean and its not done it again.
-
Thanks woosh. No idea where the box is as I bought the car with it already installed.
Pulled the radio fuse out for a few seconds. Sorted.
-
I do have maxidot. So it'll just reset the long term trip info? No great loss.
-
This might be a silly question but...
I've got a Parrot 3100 Bluetooth thingy on my 2009 vrs. It seems to have crashed and is stuck on the 'Goodbye' screen. I've tried the reset procedure and it doesn't work. I'm thinking about disconnecting the battery to reset it. Anything I should be aware of that could stop working (eg the Columbus).
Thanks in advance.

My last car was a 2009 Audi A3 with a 1.9Tdi PD engine and it had a DPF.
-
I'm 30, bought my Vrs last year.
The final straw that made me buy it was a snide comment by a Mazda salesman. I was test driving a Mazda 6 Sport and I mentioned that it was either this or an Octavia Vrs and he said "Don't get the Skoda, you don't want to get a car that's made for someone twice your age."
-
I had this. The cause was the jack not pushed in far enough. It was quite tight as it had hardly been used when I bought it.
-
Try Parkers.co.uk get a px price then knock off thousands until you start to cry. That'll be about the px you get offered.
This. I tried to PX a 3 year old A3 with 24k on the clock for a new car and almost everywhere offered me £2-3k less than the PX value that parkers quoted. The only place that gave me a decent price was Volvo who were desperate to sell me a V60 (I almost bit!). Whenever I quoted Volvos PX value elsewhere they just laughed. Sold private in the end. Got £2k more than Skoda offered me.
-
Used them for the first time this month. Bought my 2009 VRS TDI from Liverpool so they've not seen it before.
Collected the car from my work place, MOTed it and had it back a few hours later. Fitted a new handbrake mechanism but called to ask in advance. £120 for the part, £40 for the MOT.
They must be a licensed test centre now looking at the paperwork.
Staff were friendly. Will be using them again in 2 months when the service is due. -
I reckon the manual would achieve 50+
I got 51mpg with a fully loaded boot, 2 adults, 2 kids on a 500 mile drive to France. That's about as good as it gets apart from through roadworks at 50mph.
-
Ive got 6000 only from my front Conti 5's
So dont get them!!
I will be buying a couple of Goodyear Eagle F1's in the spring when the 18's go back on
Continental all the way.
As I've said in other threads, my original Conti SC2's lasted for 31k (for the first two) and 43k for the second 2.
I now have SC5's all around. On top of offering excellent grip & low road noise they are wearing at a similar rate. So the first 2 I got were on the back for 12k miles and are now on the front and have so much tread left.
For those reason I only use and recommend Conti's.
And now you can close you thread.
That's a ridiculous difference. Unless ChrisRs only drives on the Nurburgring.

Add me to the list! After a couple of years without a Skoda (my previous was a 2009 Octavia Vrs TDI), I'm back in the gang.
Bought this Superb Sportline TDI 190 DSG this week. Absolutely love it so far!
