  1. Thanks for replies... will let you know what the mechanic says ....
  2. Yes I think that is about right ...maybe abit more ... I have owned it since new and always changed oil at about 8000-10000kms. Its been a one driver car and only redlined it two or three times;).
  3. Regarding another timing chain I am led to believe that a symptom of the dreaded timing chain failure is a engine top end rattle when cold ... mine starts and sounds fine when cold and only rattles when its really warm so hoping it might be something abit cheaper to fix!
  4. Thanks for the replies ... Oil consumption is probably 150 ml per 1500km approx. Ill post an audio file of the noise... if its the timing chain again then I might be saying goodbye to a much loved car
  5. Hi all My venerable(now at 247k) but trusty 2013 Skoda Yeti 118TSI has developed a rattle in the engine at Idle when it is hot and sometimes wont fire up immediatley at the turn of the ignition key. It runs and sounds fine when it is cold but when it is hot it runs rough and sounds like a diesel at low revs. I had the cam timing chain and tensioner replaced at 120k and it runs and sounds fine when it is cold so I dont think it is Timing chain related. Other forums have suggested Valve lifters but if anyone has any ideas about what it could be Id be happy to hear them . Its been a great car and would like to keep it running for as long as possible. Cheers
  6. Ive owned my 118TSI MY2012 Skoda Yeti since new. I really love driving it and its probably the best car Ive owned. Thought id list everything ive replaced and a few parts have failed. Ive serviced it religiously on time every 12-15000kms hope to get another 100000kms out of it. Im not a really speedy driver(never redlined it) but love driving through the corners on the mountain roads where I live. The car handles beautifully Bits that have broken or replaced: two sets tyres. Two sets windscreen wipers. one rear brake pad holder... just a small bit of cheap wire... brake pads still havent been replaced holding up which is amazing. One broken windscreen. Worn out drivers side floor mat. Rear skoda badge replaced under warranty when it fell off Replaced a couple of rear luggage hooks that I lost. The biggie is that the timing chain failed at 125000kms ... lucky I went to mechanic as soon as check engine light came on! Skoda Australia only offered a partial refund on the 3000 dollar cost of repair.... this was disappointing seeing it failed shortly after the warranty lapsed. Timing Chain is supposedly a life of car part. Hope it lasts to 250000kms!
  7. So I have my car back and it is running fine... James Frizelle Motors in Lismore ended up being helpful with labour costs and charged 1300 labour when they had quoted me 2100 and also did a free major service (new plugs oil etc) and a compression check which showed compression on all cylinders in normal range... meaning that valves and cylinders are still maintaining cylinder pressure... (something that they may not do if damaged by timing chain stretch, causing valves to hit pistons).. Still going to write a letter to skoda to see if they can pay me back some of the hire car and labour costs. Not optimistic though. Its good to have the yeti back running smmmoooothly.
  8. I locked my 2012 Yeti parked in a friends driveway with the windows wound down. We went out and a storm came in started to poor down heavy rain I was worried that the interior of the car would get wet. Came back and all the windows had automatically closed interior dry as a bone... A cool feature!
  9. Thanks for reply Ryeman Have thought about approaching the checkout on ABC as they have a segment called FU Tube where they follow up viewer complaints. It seems to get pretty good results.
  10. The saga continues.... Skoda Australia now offering to pay for 100 percent of parts cost($600) but not labour. While this is better it amounts to about 30 percent of the actual repair cost as labour is about $1300. Anyone have any experience in this process? Should I keep trying to get them to pay for the entire amount or will it be effort for nothing?
  11. Update.... Spoke to Skoda Australia this morning and they are currently reconsidering goodwill contribution to replace timing chain and guides. They will only consider paying for actual replacement part costs (600dollars) which will mean I will be still out of pocket over $2000 due to towing, labour and hire car costs (no loan car offered from James Frizelles Lismore). Have been advised by Australian Consumer Law that this can be considered a "major "problem on the part of the product...defined as one that if I had known about it I would not have bought the vehicle. In this instance I am entitled to a full refund of costs.... Thats if I can be bothered fighting Skoda with the NSW Small Business Comissioner. Will post again when I have heard back from Skoda.... Thanks everyone for your interest in this issue.
  12. unhappy update on the original post ... local vag dealer James Frizelle Lismore has confirmed stretched timing chain and Skoda Australia has offered to pay 300 dollars of a 2100 dollar repair ... this is truly terrible support and I will be contesting this diabolically bad response from SKODA Australia tomorrow .... stay tuned....
